Matsuya's Miyakojima-Tomobuchicho, No. 8 Nagahama, and Sendai Ichibancho Locations All Shift Latitude South by 0.000001 Degrees

On July 24, it was found that the latitude at three Matsuya locations — Matsuya Miyakojima-Tomobuchicho (2214), Matsuya No. 8 Nagahama (2224), and Matsuya Sendai Ichibancho (2260) — had all shifted south by exactly 0.000001 degrees. None of the three saw any change in longitude, which works out to a shift of roughly 11cm almost due south on the map. Three locations geographically scattered across Osaka, Shiga, and Miyagi moved by the same amount, in the same direction, on the same day.

All Three Locations: Longitude Unchanged, Latitude Alone Shifts 0.000001 Degrees South

This update was an extremely small correction in which the latitude decreased by exactly 0.000001 degrees at all three locations. None of the three saw any change in longitude.

0.000001 degrees of latitude works out to roughly 11cm, suggesting that the store’s actual location hasn’t moved — only the displayed map coordinates have been nudged slightly. This is not accompanied by any relocation or change of address.

South Only: Coordinates That Have Never Once Reversed

This is not the first time the latitude at these three locations has changed. Since April 25, when four locations in Osaka, Shiga, Miyagi, and Tokyo all shifted south by 0.000001 degrees at once, the same 0.000001-degree decrements have kept recurring at the same stores — and not once has any of them moved back north. Longitude has never changed either. Every single time, the coordinates are updated by exactly 11cm, always southward.

These three locations have accumulated the most repetitions of any store: since April 25 alone, Miyakojima-Tomobuchicho has reached its 15th shift, No. 8 Nagahama its 14th, and Sendai Ichibancho its 12th. Cumulatively, that puts Miyakojima-Tomobuchicho about 1.7m, No. 8 Nagahama about 1.5m, and Sendai Ichibancho about 1.3m south of their original displayed positions. The same phenomenon has appeared sporadically at other stores too, but none have racked up this many repetitions over this long a stretch.

A Continuation of the July 22 Simultaneous Shift at Two Locations

Most recently, just two days earlier on July 22, Miyakojima-Tomobuchicho and Sendai Ichibancho had shifted south by 0.000001 degrees together. This time No. 8 Nagahama joined them, making it a simultaneous shift across all three. Starting from the four-store adjustment on April 25, the pattern has continued of two or three stores at a time having their coordinates nudged in the same direction.

All three do share the trait of being co-located with a Matsunoya, but since many other stores share that same attribute, it can’t be called a defining feature unique to these three. There’s no geographic cluster either — what they share is simply the nature of the update itself: only the latitude moves, only southward, only by 0.000001 degrees, and never back.
