On June 21, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted an approximately 15-second video of ‘Shkmeruli,’ revived in limited quantities to mark the brand’s 60th founding anniversary. The video runs from a sizzling shot of scooping up Shkmeruli topped with melting cheese, through to an arrangement that mixes it with rice and adds Extra Cheese for a Doria-style finish, with the messages ‘For Sunday dinner’ and ‘There’s still time,’ urging viewers to grab one before it sells out.

From Sizzle Shots to a Doria-style Arrangement

The video opens with a close-up of Shkmeruli: chicken and chunky ingredients submerged in a white, creamy garlic soup, generously topped with melting white and yellow cheese. It’s followed by a steaming sizzle shot in which lifting a spoonful pulls the cheese and thick sauce into long strings.

Midway through, rice is added, and captions reading “Switch to the Hot Pot Set with Extra Cheese for just 100 more yen!” and “Try it Doria-style, too!” appear as the video proposes an arrangement where Shkmeruli’s soup and cheese are mixed into the rice for a Doria-style dish — a way of eating that blends the garlic-forward cream sauce, cheese, and rice together.

Product Details of the Limited-Quantity Revival

The latter half of the video sums up the product details. Alongside the copy “Sold simultaneously at Matsuya locations worldwide” and “The world’s most delicious garlic dish, brought to you by Matsuya,” it notes that the rice used is 100% domestically grown, sales began at 10 a.m. on June 16, and prices are 1,090 yen for the Shkmeruli Set Meal and 990 yen for the Shkmeruli Rice Set.

Shkmeruli, one of Matsuya’s signature garlic dishes, was released on June 16 as a limited-quantity revival marking the chain’s 60th founding anniversary. In addition to the Regular-style “Shkmeruli Set Meal” (1,090 yen) and “Shkmeruli Rice Set” (990 yen) served at all locations, a Store-limited Hot Pot-style version with Extra Cheese included — the “Shkmeruli Hot Pot Set Meal” (1,190 yen) and “Shkmeruli Hot Pot Rice Set” (1,090 yen) — is also offered. The on-screen caption “Switch to the Hot Pot Set with Extra Cheese for just 100 more yen” refers to the 100-yen difference from the Regular-style price that upgrades the order to the Hot Pot-style version, which comes with Extra Cheese included.

A banner for the Matsuya Mobile Order Triple Point Campaign, which triples Matsuya Points on orders placed via Matsuya Mobile Order, also stays on screen throughout the video. The campaign runs from Tuesday, June 16 to Tuesday, June 30, and excludes Matsuben Net and Matsuben Delivery orders. Since Shkmeruli is a limited-quantity revival, the post urges fans with “For Sunday dinner” and “There’s still time” to eat it before it sells out.

Editor's Note

Mixing in rice and finishing with Extra Cheese for a Doria-style dish is such a sly way to eat it. Showing this on a Sunday night is dangerous.
