Matsuya Opens Its First Location in Kani, Gifu — "Kani Store" Opens Today at 10 AM

Matsuya Kani Store (2305), the company’s first location in Kani City, Gifu Prefecture, opened today, October 30, 2026, at 10 AM. It is located at 814 Sakado Aza Hachimanmae, Kani City, Gifu Prefecture, and operates 24 hours a day. Following the opening announcement on October 8 and a phone number change on October 23, the store opened as previously announced.

Matsuya’s First Store in Kani City Brings Gifu Prefecture Total to Nine

With this opening, the number of Matsuya locations in Gifu Prefecture has risen to nine. This is the first time Matsuya has opened a store in Kani City.

Nationally, Gifu Prefecture is not an area with a particularly large number of Matsuya stores, and it remains thinly covered compared to urban areas that host as many as 300 locations. Against this backdrop, the new opening means customers in Kani City can now use a Matsuya store for the first time.

Seven of Gifu Prefecture’s Nine Stores Are Co-Located with Matsunoya

The Kani Store opened in the format that co-locates with the tonkatsu specialty chain Matsunoya. Of the nine Matsuya stores in Gifu Prefecture, seven are of the Matsunoya co-located type, leaving only two standalone stores without a co-located Matsunoya: Matsuya Gifu-akanabe (0267) and Matsuya Ogaki (0621).

This co-located format is also the mainstream choice nationwide, with the number of Matsuya stores co-located with Matsunoya now reaching 485. Matsuya’s recent new store openings have been almost entirely unified around this format: of the 46 newly added stores, 43 (about 93%) were of the Matsunoya co-located type. The Kani Store can be seen as following this trend.

Gifu Prefecture’s Second New Store of 2026 After the Seki Store, with the Nearest Location Across the Prefectural Border in Aichi’s Inuyama Store

The Kani Store is Gifu Prefecture’s second new opening this year, following Matsuya Seki Store (2301). Both of these recently added stores share the common feature of being the Matsunoya co-located type.

The existing Matsuya store closest to the Kani Store is not within Gifu Prefecture but Matsuya Inuyama (2254), across the prefectural border in Inuyama City, Aichi Prefecture, at a straight-line distance of roughly 8.9 km. Within Gifu Prefecture, the closest is the Seki Store at about 14.2 km, followed by Kakamigahara Store (2166) at about 16.6 km (all figures are approximate straight-line distances calculated from latitude and longitude). The fact that the nearest store is the Inuyama Store, outside the prefecture, also reflects Kani City’s location near the border between Gifu and Aichi prefectures.
