Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza to Release 'Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce' for 1,451 Yen on Oct. 28
Matsuya Foods will release ‘Shimanto Pork Stir-fried with Ginger Soy Sauce’ (1,451 yen, tax included) at its prepared-meal retail format ‘Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza’ starting at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 28, 2026. The release was revealed in an official announcement dated October 22. For a store that has mainly rolled out Kobe beef bowls and rice dishes, this marks only the second item to put pork front and center.
A Dish Pairing Shimanto Shoulder Loin with Kochi-Grown ‘Ogon Ginger’
According to the official announcement, the star ingredient is the shoulder loin of ‘Shimanto Pork,’ a branded pork raised in Shimanto. It is stir-fried together with ‘Ogon Ginger’ grown in Kochi Prefecture and seasoned with Matsuya’s ginger-fry sauce. The Ogon Ginger is cut into thin, needle-like strips, adding color, aroma, and crunch, according to Matsuya.
The bento comes in a gold-colored container packed with the ginger-fried pork and rice, with Potato Salad and a kinpira gobo–style side dish in the divider section. It is served as a bento set with rice included. Shareholder benefit vouchers cannot be used.
A Turn from a String of Kobe Beef Releases: The Second Pork-Centered Item
Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza has rolled out three straight Kobe-beef-centered new items: the ‘Kobe Beef Bowl topped with Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce’ released September 2, the ‘Kobe Beef Bibimbap Bowl’ released September 9, and the ‘Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box’ released September 25. This marks the first pork-centered item since the ‘Duo Pork with Kujo Green Onion in Salt Sauce Box’ (1,300 yen), which debuted in August.
At 1,451 yen, the new item is more affordable than the store’s Kobe beef lineup — the ‘Kobe Beef Bowl topped with Green Onion and Soft Boiled Egg’ and ‘Kobe Beef Bowl topped with Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce’ (1,650 yen each), the ‘Kobe Beef Bibimbap Bowl’ (1,800 yen), and the ‘Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box’ (1,861 yen) — but pricier than the ‘Duo Pork with Kujo Green Onion in Salt Sauce Box’ (1,300 yen), the ‘Umatoma Hamburg Steak with Domestic Japanese Black Wagyu Beef, Hamburg Steak Only’ (1,280 yen), and ‘Matsuya-style Simmered Kobe Beef’ (1,080 yen). It falls just short of the Kobe beef line while landing at the top of the pork price bracket.
At Matsuya proper, the pork loin ‘Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal’ returned to the regular menu on July 6. About three and a half months later, a ginger-fry item has now joined the lineup at PREMIUM Ginza, a separate retail format.
Announcement Came Six Days Before Launch — the Longest Lead Time Yet for the Store
This announcement was issued on October 22, six days before the launch date. Most of the store’s previous new-item announcements have launched on the same day or the day after the announcement, making this the longest lead time yet for a new-item announcement at this store. It had been 27 days since the previous new-item announcement, on September 25.
The announcement image carries the tagline ‘A melt-in-your-mouth sweetness, raised by Shimanto,’ alongside a watercolor landscape illustration evoking the Shimanto River, and states explicitly that it uses ‘Ogon Ginger grown in Kochi Prefecture.’
Editor's Note
After a string of Kobe beef releases, Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza throws in a surprise: ginger-fried pork. We're curious how the crunch of Kochi's Ogon Ginger plays into it.
