Urging followers to “build up your stamina with eel to power through the summer,” the post serves as a day-before reminder to enjoy Matsuya’s Grilled Eel Bowl on the Day of the Ox itself.

Tomorrow, July 26, Is This Year’s Day of the Ox

This year’s Day of the Ox falls on Sunday, July 26. Matsuya’s official X account had already stated “July 26 is the Day of the Ox!” in a July 16 post nine days earlier, and this post comes with the day just one day away.

The image attached to the post features a red background with large brush-lettered text reading “Day of the Ox” and “Let’s eat eel!” Matsuya’s official mascots, Macky & Yakky, stand on a large, open kabayaki-style eel. A Grilled Eel Bowl in a Takeout container sits at the upper left, and a Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl on a plate at the lower right, showing that the eel can be enjoyed both in the store and to go.

Matsuya Offers Six Grilled Eel Items

This summer’s eel lineup at Matsuya is a Limited-time series of six Grilled Eel Bowl items that launched on June 23, and all of them were still on sale as of July 25. On the Day of the Ox itself, the following lineup is available in stores.

Centered on the Grilled Eel Bowl, which lets you enjoy simply eel and rice, the lineup lets you choose by how you like to eat and how much you want: the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl adds soft egg, the Eel Combo Beef Bowl pairs it with a Beef Bowl, and the Grilled Eel Plate range offers the eel without rice.

Enjoy It Tomorrow in Store, by Takeout, or in the App

Eel is also available for Takeout. The Grilled Eel Bowl Bento Set (Takeout only), aimed at bulk buyers, went on sale at 10:00 a.m. on July 21. The 2-piece set is 1,800 yen instead of the usual 1,960 yen, and the 3-piece set is 2,740 yen instead of the usual 2,940 yen. Advance reservations through Matsuben Net were set up to offer even better value for pickup on July 26 only, but reservations closed at 11:59 p.m. on July 23. If you want eel on the Day of the Ox, the Grilled Eel Bowl items in stores are on sale as usual, so you can order them on the day.

In addition, the Matsuya app-only Grilled Eel Bowl Point Boost Campaign runs from July 21 to July 27. Buying eligible Grilled Eel Bowl items through Matsuben Net or Matsuya Mobile Order earns 100 to 300 points per meal (the Grilled Eel Plate range is excluded). If you order during this period, which includes the Day of the Ox, you can also get the point rebate.

Capping Off About a Month of Eel Promotions

This post comes in the final stretch of Matsuya’s eel promotion, which has run since late June. The Grilled Eel Bowl series launched on June 23. On July 16, advance reservations and a discount for the Grilled Eel Bowl Bento Set were announced with the Day of the Ox (July 26) in mind. On July 21, the set went on sale and the app-only Point Boost started at the same time, and on July 23 a reminder about the reservation deadline went out. This July 25 post is the final push on the day before the Day of the Ox. The eel promotion, warmed up in stages over about a month, now reaches the main day itself.
