Matsuya Launches 12 Summer Eel Items Nationwide Today at 10 AM, Led by New 'Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl'
Matsuya will launch its summer eel menu nationwide (excluding some locations) today, June 23, 2026 (Tue), at 10 AM. Now in its eighth year running, this year’s lineup is led by the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl (1,180 yen), a renewal of last year’s Grilled Eel & Egg Bowl, built around three bowls — that one plus the Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen) and the Eel Combo Beef Bowl (1,180 yen) — each offered in Double and Triple eel portions, plus three rice-free plate versions, for 12 items in total. Alongside this, Samgyetang-style Soup Only (330 yen) has been added, and the Extra Cheese topping for Shkmeruli now carries a discontinuation notice.

A Flat 700 Yen Added for Each Extra Piece of Eel
All three bowl series come in three tiers — Single, Double, and Triple — with the price rising by a flat 700 yen for each additional piece of eel. The Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl runs 1,180 yen → 1,880 yen → 2,580 yen, the Grilled Eel Bowl runs 980 yen → 1,680 yen → 2,380 yen, and the Eel Combo Beef Bowl runs 1,180 yen → 1,880 yen → 2,580 yen — the per-piece price increase is identical across all three series. Every Triple tops 2,000 yen, and the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl Triple delivers 1,570 kcal and 84.3g of protein, the volume of three full pieces of eel.
What Sets the Three Bowls Apart: Egg or Beef Bowl
Even at the same 1,180 yen, the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl and the Eel Combo Beef Bowl take different directions. The Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl pairs eel with soft, fluffy egg, with 44.2g of protein and 33.5g of fat. The Eel Combo Beef Bowl, meanwhile, combines eel with Beef Bowl, running higher on fat at 39.8g against 34.3g of protein because of the beef portion. The cheapest option, the Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen), is a simple pairing of eel and rice — the lightest of the three at 674 kcal and 18.7g of fat — positioned as the most affordable way to enjoy eel on its own.
Three Rice-Free Plate Options
Alongside the bowls, three rice-free plate options are also available: the Grilled Eel Plate (760 yen), the Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate (960 yen), and the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Plate (960 yen). The Grilled Eel Plate is eel served on its own as a side dish, low in carbs at 277 kcal and 11.7g of carbohydrates; the Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate pairs eel with Beef Bowl topping; and the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Plate lets you enjoy eel and egg served on a plate. With the bowl’s rice left out, all three keep carbohydrates in the low teens of grams, making them a good pick as a drinking companion or a lighter option.
Also Launching Today: Samgyetang-style Soup Only at 330 Yen
On the same June 23 as the eel lineup, a new side menu item, Samgyetang-style Soup Only (330 yen, 162 kcal, 12.6g of protein), also launched. A June 18 official announcement noted it can be discounted by up to 70 yen when paired with a regular menu item as a set, positioning it as a light add-on alongside the heavier eel bowls.
Discontinuation Notice Added to Shkmeruli’s ‘Extra Cheese’ Topping
At the same time, a new note reading “*To be discontinued in stages” was added to the notes field for the side menu item Extra Cheese (120 yen). Extra Cheese launched alongside the June 16 revival of Shkmeruli as a topping dedicated to that dish, and as Shkmeruli’s own discontinuation approaches, its dedicated topping is now heading toward discontinuation as well.
An Eighth Year Running Up to the Day of the Ox on July 26
The Grilled Eel Bowl series is now in its eighth year as a recurring summer campaign, with a June 18 official announcement stating that “this year’s Day of the Ox falls on July 26,” framing it as a seasonal campaign. Running from its late-June launch through the July 26 Day of the Ox, the lineup spans just over a month, and the lead item has been renewed from last year’s Grilled Eel & Egg Bowl to the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl, which puts the texture of the egg front and center.
As of 10:05 AM on June 23, Moved to the Limited-time Section
As of 10:05 AM on June 23, 2026, the official menu confirmed that four items — the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl, the Grilled Eel Bowl, the Eel Combo Beef Bowl, and Samgyetang-style Soup Only — had moved into the Limited-time section.
Editor's Note
Each extra piece of eel adds a flat 700 yen, topping out at a proud 2,580 yen for the Triple. The Day of the Ox isn't until July 26 — there's still plenty of runway.
