The new Matsuya store “Matsuya Seki Store (2301)” opened at 10 a.m. on September 4, 2026. Located at 4-1-48 Sakae-machi, Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, it is the first Matsuya in Seki City.

On August 12, the store was registered in the store list on Matsuya’s official website as pre-opening information, with the note “※Opens at 10 a.m. on September 4” appended to the end of the store name. On September 4, that notice and the scheduled opening date and time were removed, and the store is now listed as a regular operating location. The store opened as announced.

The First Matsuya in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture

According to the store list on Matsuya’s official website, Seki Store is the only Matsuya located in Seki City, Gifu Prefecture, making this the city’s first Matsuya opening. With Seki Store added, Matsuya now has 8 stores in Gifu Prefecture.

The nearest existing store to Seki Store is Kakamigahara Store in Kakamigahara City, to the south of Seki City, about 11.4 km away in a straight line. The next nearest, Gifu Toei-cho Store, is about 14.6 km away, so the area around Seki City had been a gap area that Matsuya stores did not reach. With this opening, a Matsuya sign now stands in that area for the first time.

A Store Co-located with Matsunoya

Seki Store is listed as a store co-located with Matsunoya, the tonkatsu and katsudon chain. Of Matsuya’s 8 stores in Gifu Prefecture, 6, including Seki Store, are co-located with Matsunoya; only Ogaki Store and Gifu Akanebe Store are not. Co-location with Matsunoya is the prevailing format in the prefecture.

Follow-up to the Announcement

The opening of Seki Store was already reported on August 14 as “scheduled to open at 10 a.m. on September 4.” About three weeks after the pre-opening information was registered, the store opened on the announced date and time.

In recent store news in Gifu Prefecture, in August, Gifu Noritake Store had its late-night operation suspension notice removed and returned to “24-hour operation.” Matsuya continues to make headlines in the prefecture.
