Matsuya's Official X Account Tries the Umatoma Loin Cutlet Set Meal at Chiba's New "Tomisato Interchange Store" the Day After Opening

On July 18, Matsuya’s official X account visited the “Matsuya/Matsunoya Tomisato Interchange Store,” which had opened just the day before, and posted photos of trying Matsunoya’s Umatoma Loin Cutlet Set Meal. The post included a brief comment — “Umatoma Loin Cutlet Set Meal, delicious…” — along with a link to the store’s detail page.

A Combined Store Marking the Brand’s First Location in Tomisato, Chiba

The Tomisato Interchange Store is a combined Matsuya (beef bowl) and Matsunoya (tonkatsu) location that opened at 10:00 a.m. on July 17. This marks the first time the Matsuya brand has opened a store in Tomisato, Chiba Prefecture. It is located at 552-11 Nanae, Tomisato City, near the Tomisato Interchange on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway.

The posted photo of the storefront shows a brand-new black-toned building with the Matsuya and Matsunoya signs side by side, and rows of phalaenopsis orchids celebrating the opening lined up out front. True to its roadside-store style, the location has a parking lot, with a sign indicating capacity for “24 cars.” In the upper left of the image, official mascot Macky strikes an “OK” pose, adding to the festive opening mood.

According to the opening flyer being handed out at the store, it operates 24 hours a day and offers table seating. The morning set meals, available only from 5:00 to 11:00 a.m., start at 350 yen, rice refills for set meals are free, and the kids’ menu comes with original merchandise. The format lets customers enjoy both Matsuya’s beef bowls and Matsunoya’s loin cutlet set meals at a single location.

Incidentally, there are eight “Interchange” stores nationwide that carry an expressway interchange name in their store name, and within Chiba Prefecture, the Tomisato Interchange Store is the second such location, following the “Makuhari Interchange Store” in Narashino City.

Matsunoya’s “Umatoma Loin Cutlet Set Meal,” Tried by the Official X Account

The dish tried features a crisply fried loin cutlet generously topped with the ripe tomato-based “Umatoma” sauce and a soft, runny onsen egg. In front sit rice served in Matsuya’s familiar MATSUYA-logo bowl, miso soup with fried tofu, and a small dish of shredded cabbage — Matsunoya’s classic set meal style.

“Umatoma” is a signature Matsuya flavor best known from the popular beef bowl variation “Umatoma Beef Bowl,” and this menu item pairs that sauce with Matsunoya’s loin cutlet. A free breakfast service ticket was also placed on the tray, hinting at the bustle unique to a store that has only just opened.

This is not the first time the official X account has reported on trying a Matsunoya menu item — it follows on from introducing the Shkmeruli Loin Cutlet Set Meal in June as a “forbidden combination,” continuing a series of posts spotlighting the Matsunoya side of these combined stores.

New Combined Matsuya/Matsunoya Store Openings Continue Nationwide

The opening of the Tomisato Interchange Store had been announced in advance, with the store information page stating ahead of time that it would open “at 10:00 a.m. on July 17.” That opening day duly arrived, and the following day the official X account itself visited and cleaned its plate.

New Matsuya/Matsunoya combined stores have been opening one after another across the country, with the Ichinomiya Owari Store opening in the same combined format on July 17 and the Shin-Matsudo Store on July 10. It appears that the nationwide rollout of combined stores where customers can enjoy both beef bowls and tonkatsu in one place is proceeding at a pace of roughly every few days.
