Matsuya 'Tomisato Interchange' Location Sees Latitude Shifted About 11cm South Ahead of July 17 Opening
At Matsuya Tomisato Interchange location (2293), set to open in Tomisato, Chiba Prefecture on July 17, it has come to light that the coordinates marking its position on the map were slightly adjusted just four days before opening. The distance moved: roughly 11cm. It’s an exceedingly small coordinate tweak, made as opening preparations reach their final stretch.
Latitude shifted about 11cm due south, a seventh-decimal-place adjustment
As of July 13, the latitude shown on the store detail page of Matsuya’s official website for the Tomisato Interchange location reads 35.7445107, down from the previously listed 35.7445117 — a change of one unit in the seventh decimal place. The longitude remains unchanged; only the latitude was lowered, meaning the point marking the store on the map shifted approximately 11cm due south. In numerical terms, that’s a mere 0.0000010 degrees, and there is no change to core information such as the address, store name, or planned opening date.
The same small-scale adjustment seen at other locations too
This seventh-decimal-place latitude tweak isn’t unique to the Tomisato Interchange location. The same 0.0000010-degree latitude adjustment has been repeated across multiple Matsuya locations. At Matsuya 8-go Nagahama location (2224), for instance, the same magnitude of downward latitude revision has been applied repeatedly, gradually nudging the map point further south each time. This understated coordinate fine-tuning appears to be quietly ongoing at Matsuya locations across the board.
Tomisato’s first Matsuya, opening soon
The Tomisato Interchange location will be the Matsuya Group’s first store in Tomisato, Chiba Prefecture, set to open at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 17. It will operate in a format co-located with Matsunoya, situated close to the Tomisato Interchange on the Higashi-Kanto Expressway.
The nearest existing Matsuya is Matsuya Narita location (0511) in the city of Narita, roughly 3.3km away as the crow flies. Next closest is Matsuya Shisui PA (Down Line) location (1928), at about 4.5km. The new store fills in a stretch of the Narita-Sakura area that had previously been thin on locations. Prior reporting had already flagged this new store’s planned July 17 opening. This latest development is a modest shift in store data as the opening date draws near.
Editor's Note
Coordinates being fine-tuned even before opening day suggests the groundwork for getting on the map is proceeding steadily behind the scenes. Customers should have no trouble finding their way there on opening day.
