At 10 a.m. on October 6, 2026, Matsuya switched the bundled goodies for its children’s “Kids’ Beef Bowl Waku Waku Set” and “Kids’ Curry and Rice Waku Waku Set” (450 yen each) to the design of the Matsuya/Matsunoya x “Sumikko Gurashi” collaboration project, which launched the same day. The Beef Bowl and Curry and Rice in the sets keep the same prices and nutritional values; only the bundled goodies have changed.

Only the Goodies Changed; the Beef Bowl and Curry and Rice Stay the Same

The contents of both Waku Waku Sets are unchanged in this update. Both remain at 450 yen, and the nutritional values are kept at their previous figures. In the series of goodies swaps made since the end of March 2026, prices and nutritional values have consistently been left as they were.

The Kids’ Curry and Rice Waku Waku Set has slightly fewer calories than the Beef Bowl version. The official menu listing carries a note that reads, “Honey is used. To prevent infant botulism, do not give it to infants under 1 year old.”

Both Are Eligible Items for the Sumikko Gurashi Collaboration

This goodies update coincides with the “Sumikko Gurashi” collaboration project that began at Matsuya and Matsunoya stores nationwide at 10 a.m. on October 6, 2026. The collaboration as a whole runs from 10 a.m. on October 6 to 9:59 a.m. on December 22.

For each eligible item ordered, customers receive one randomly selected “Sumikko Gurashi Reflector Keychain” out of 6 designs, and both the Kids’ Beef Bowl and Kids’ Curry and Rice Waku Waku Sets are among the eligible items. The keychain distribution period runs from 10 a.m. on October 6 to 9:59 a.m. on November 17, while supplies last. A second round has also been announced, starting November 17.

At the same 10 a.m. on October 6, a separate new curry series, “Neo Kashmir Curry and Rice,” also went on sale, so the character collaboration and a new product launch landed at the same time.

A History of Costume Changes for the Kids’ Sets

The goodies bundled with the Kids’ Waku Waku Sets have been swapped repeatedly in step with character collaborations. Starting in 2026, “Chiikawa” in February was followed by “Kobito Zukan” from the end of March and in May, then “ONE PIECE” from the end of June and in August, making “Sumikko Gurashi” the fourth character of the year.

The most recent swaps all took place at 10 a.m. on a Tuesday. June 30, August 18, and now October 6 have each been exactly 49 days (7 weeks) apart, three updates in a row. A pattern of regularly swapping only the goodies while leaving the Beef Bowl and Curry and Rice as they are has been taking hold over the past several rounds.

450 Yen, Cheaper Than an Adult Beef Bowl

The 450 yen price of both Waku Waku Sets stands out even against Matsuya’s regular menu. It is 10 yen below the cheapest adult Beef Bowl (Regular Serving) at 460 yen, and 230 yen, or about 34%, below the cheapest regular Curry and Rice (such as the Founding Beef Curry and Rice) at 680 yen.

Within the Kids’ category, the two Waku Waku Sets, at 450 yen, sit in the highest price range, compared with the Mommy drink at 100 yen on its own. Even as sets for children, they keep the Beef Bowl or Curry and Rice plus the collaboration goodies within 450 yen.

Editor's Note

A set that costs 10 yen less than a Beef Bowl and even comes with Sumikko Gurashi? I can kind of understand why adults might want to order one on the sly.
