On Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 10 a.m., Matsuya will release the store-limited menu item “4-Cheese Beef Bowl” in limited quantities. It costs 690 yen (with miso soup). The item is listed on the store-limited page of Matsuya’s official website, which states that 568 stores will carry it.

Cottage Cheese Joins as the “Fourth” Cheese

The “4” in the name refers to a build that adds cottage cheese to the cheeses already used in the regular “Beef Bowl topped with Cheese.” The promotional image reads “Cottage cheese added to the regular Cheese Beef Bowl!”, making it a bowl with four kinds of cheese in total. All of the cheeses used are described as natural cheeses.

Customers can also add an “Extra Cottage Cheese” topping for 80 yen. In the promotional image, generous crumbles of white cottage cheese sit on top of the beef and onions, garnished with thin yellow strips and a green sprinkle. A red “Limited Quantity” mark is placed on the right, and a line across the top reads “Get it while you can! *It may not be there next time…”, stressing that stores and stock are limited.

568 Stores on the Official Page, Concentrated in Tokyo

Matsuya’s official store-limited page states that 568 stores will carry the item. Meanwhile, the participating store list page that Matsuya links to shows 432 stores by region, so the two figures differ. Sales begin on October 6, and today is the day before.

The regional breakdown shown on the participating store list page is as follows.

• Tokyo: 194 stores
• Kanagawa Prefecture: 59 stores
• Osaka Prefecture: 58 stores
• Saitama Prefecture: 32 stores
• Chiba Prefecture: 30 stores
• Hyogo Prefecture: 11 stores
• Fukuoka Prefecture: 8 stores
• Aichi Prefecture: 8 stores
• Kyoto Prefecture: 5 stores
• Miyagi Prefecture: 4 stores
• 19 other prefectures with 1–2 stores each

Tokyo stands out with 194 stores, more than three times the second-place Kanagawa Prefecture (59 stores). Meanwhile, 18 prefectures, including Okinawa, Yamaguchi, Gifu and Mie, have no participating stores on the list at all, so the item is available in only 29 of Japan’s 47 prefectures. The rollout is skewed toward urban areas.

Larger in Scale Than Recent Store-Limited Items

Compared with recent menu items in the same store-limited category, this release is larger. “Hamburg Steak in Rich Umami Stew with Mushroom Duxelles Set Meal,” which appeared in late May, was available at 70 stores, and “Mirai no Lemon Sour,” in late July, at 430 stores. The number of participating stores has grown with each release: 70, then 430, then 568.

Regular Cheese Beef Bowls Remain on the Menu

The regular menu includes the “Beef Bowl topped with Cheese” (660 yen) and the “Beef Bowl topped with Tomato and Cheese” (690 yen), both currently on sale. The store-limited “4-Cheese Beef Bowl” is added as a separate menu item from these. The cottage-cheese-topped bowl is built on the regular Cheese Beef Bowl.

Other Matsuya Events on the Same Day, October 6

Also scheduled for 10 a.m. on October 6, the same time the 4-Cheese Beef Bowl goes on sale, are the release of the regular menu item “Neo Kashmir Curry and Rice” and the start of the Matsuya/Matsunoya x “Sumikko Gurashi” collaboration campaign (October 6 to December 22).
