It has been learned that Matsuya will release the “100% Beef Hamburg Steak Set Meal” as a store-limited menu item at 70 locations nationwide. The item appears on the store-limited page of Matsuya’s official website, priced at 1,280 yen. It is a dish pairing a 100% beef Hamburg Steak with a rich tomato sauce, and according to the official announcement, sales are set to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21.

A 100% Beef Hamburg Steak Wrapped in Tomato Sauce

The announcement visual features a deep crimson background with a large white “100% BEEF” logo and the words “with Tomato Sauce” in cursive script. At the center, a steaming Hamburg Steak sits on a black iron skillet plate, generously topped with a deep red tomato sauce and large pieces of sauteed onion, finished with a sprinkle of parsley.

A banner at the bottom of the visual reads, “Savor the Overflowing Meat Juices with Our ‘Rich, Rich-Umami Tomato Sauce.’” The specs list a 200g Hamburg Steak, served with Rice, Fresh Vegetable Salad, and a specially made Miso Soup, for 1,280 yen. As a Set Meal, it comes with Rice, salad (Fresh Vegetable Salad), and Miso Soup, and a note states that the Miso Soup is not included for takeout orders.

Just as the product name states outright, “100% Beef,” the marketing puts the beef ratio front and center rather than relying on fillers.

Rolling Out at 70 Stores Across 26 Prefectures Nationwide

The item is available at 70 stores nationwide, spread across 26 prefectures. The list of participating stores can be checked on Matsuya’s official store search page.

Tokyo has the most with 20 stores, followed by Saitama and Osaka prefectures with 7 each, Kanagawa with 6, and Chiba with 5, with urban areas in the Greater Tokyo and Kansai regions topping the list. Meanwhile, stores are scattered one or two at a time across the rest of the country, from Hokkaido (the Sapporo Ekimae-dori and Satozuka stores) in the north to Kagoshima Prefecture (the Kanoya Kotobuki store) in the south. Tokyo’s 20 stores account for about 29% of the total, a figure that nearly matches Tokyo’s roughly 28% share of Matsuya’s entire existing store network, suggesting that participating stores were selected in proportion to the network’s overall regional distribution rather than concentrated in specific areas.

Hamburg Steak Continues to Roll Out Across Both Standard and Store-Limited Menus

Hamburg Steak has recently become a category with a lot of activity for Matsuya, both in its standard menu and its store-limited lineup. Within the store-limited lineup, the most recent example is the “MATSUYA DELI Hamburg Steak & Boneless Short Rib Plate” (800 yen, at up to 70 stores), released on July 6, and today’s “100% Beef Hamburg Steak Set Meal” is an addition following that release. Going back further, on May 26 three items including the “Black Carbonara Sauce Hamburg Steak Set Meal” were added to the store-limited lineup, meaning this is not the first time a Hamburg Steak item has appeared in the store-limited category.

On the standard menu side, meanwhile, that same May 26, a “to be discontinued in stages” notice was attached all at once to four items: the “Omelet Demi-glace Hamburg Steak Set Meal,” “Cheese Omelet Demi-glace Hamburg Steak Set Meal,” “Demi-glace Sauce Hamburg Steak Set Meal,” and “Beef Half-and-Half Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal.” This shows a contraction in standard Hamburg Steak set meals unfolding in parallel, around the same time, with new Hamburg Steak additions to the store-limited lineup.

It’s worth noting that this rollout’s scale of 70 stores is also a standard size that has repeatedly appeared for store-limited menu items since May.

Editor's Note

With 100% beef and 200 grams of it, topped with a rich tomato sauce, this sounds like the perfect dish for a day when you really want to dig into some meat.
