On the night of July 19, 2026, Matsuya’s official X account posted about Taiwan Matsuya’s official Instagram account. The post explained that “Taiwan Matsuya’s Instagram appears to have had to start over from scratch,” and called on Matsuya fans to follow it. The account in question is https://www.instagram.com/matsuyafoods.tw, and the post closed with, “Matsuya fans, please give it a follow!!” The post did not touch on the circumstances or cause behind the account’s restart.

“Taiwan Matsuya”: The Chain’s First Overseas Location

Taiwan Matsuya, the subject of this call to action, was Matsuya’s first-ever overseas location. Past announcements show that the first Taiwan store opened in September 2018 inside the department store “Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Taipei Nanxi Store” in Taipei’s Zhongshan District. The address was given as B1, No. 15, Nanjing West Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, with business hours of 11:00–21:30.

On the menu, alongside Matsuya’s flagship Beef Bowl, the store also served Loin Cutlet from the Tonkatsu brand Matsunoya, launching as an overseas location where customers could enjoy the flavors of both Japan’s Matsuya and Matsunoya in a single store. The opening announcement at the time also noted that a Taiwan Matsuya official Facebook account had been set up alongside the store, with plans to share the latest local information through it. The Instagram account now being promoted for follows serves as one such window for social media updates.

A “Taiwan Fair” Marking the Fifth Anniversary of Its Launch

Taiwan Matsuya has since been featured in announcements on Matsuya’s official website at various milestones. In 2023, marking five years since its 2018 opening, a two-part “Taiwan Fair” was held to celebrate the “5th Anniversary of Landing in Taiwan.” The first installment brought Chicken Rice (Ji Rou Fan) that September, followed by Braised Pork Rice (Lu Rou Fan) in October, marking the anniversary with menu items distinctive to Taiwan.

These Taiwanese dishes have also repeatedly made their way back to Matsuya stores in Japan, not just locally in Taiwan. Braised Pork Rice was newly released domestically in September 2022, followed by the Taiwan-style Mixed Beef Bowl in February 2023, reflecting how Taiwanese cuisine has taken root on Matsuya’s menu as it travels back and forth between Taiwan and Japan. Taiwan, the site of Matsuya’s first overseas location, is more than just a single store for the chain.

About eight years after its 2018 opening, Taiwan Matsuya has come to symbolize Matsuya’s overseas expansion. For fans wanting to keep up with the latest news from the store, this restart of its Instagram account is a call worth not missing.

A fresh start from Taiwan, the site of Matsuya's very first overseas location. If you're curious about the Beef Bowl scene there, this might be a good chance to take a look.
