It has emerged that on the night of August 19, Matsuya’s official X account quoted a post from the official account of ramen shop “Junk Garage” to introduce “Cold Chiritoma Mazesoba,” a dish made using Umatoma. Matsuya positioned its own post as the “third installment of the Matsuya Umatoma Collaboration.”

A Post That Opens With a First-Person Introduction

Matsuya’s official X post read as follows.

Hey there, I’m a huge ramen fan (´∀`)

Matsuya Umatoma Collaboration, Part 3!

Reworked Umatoma so it works great cold, too!

There’s nothing to do but slurp it down!

The post opens with the first-person line “I’m a huge ramen fan (´∀`)” and closes with “There’s nothing to do but slurp it down!” — original copy with no corresponding notice on the official website. The emoticon “(´∀`)” placed at the top is one Matsuya’s official X account has used repeatedly in past posts, and the post stacks up three exclamation marks by its end.

The Junk Garage post being quoted clearly stated the product name and release date.

It’s a bowl that takes Matsuya’s “Umatoma” and reworks it into a spicy-savory Chiritoma, then serves it as a cold mazesoba — Matsuya’s own post likewise notes it was “reworked so it pairs great cold, too.” Notably, the previous collaboration announcement (in April) didn’t number the installment, instead writing “This time, it’s Umatoma Mazesoba,” whereas this time the post explicitly flags it as “Part 3.”

The Lineage From the First Installment, ‘Umatoma Mazesoba’

The Umatoma collaboration between Matsuya and Junk Garage was announced the same way back in April. On April 13, Matsuya’s official X account quoted a Junk Garage post to introduce “Umatoma Mazesoba,” which went on sale at all Junk Garage locations starting April 22. Counting from that first installment’s release, this third installment arrives roughly four months later.

The timing of the announcement differs between the two. The first installment was announced nine days ahead of release, while this time the post went up on August 19 — the very day of release — and even then, in the 9 p.m. hour, so the announcement and the release landed on the same day. On the other hand, the fact that this collaboration wasn’t posted as a notice on Matsuya’s official website, and was announced only through a quoted X post, is consistent with the first installment.

How ‘Umatoma’ Spread From the Beef Bowl

“Umatoma” is one of Matsuya’s signature flavor twists. Starting with the “Umatoma Cheese Beef Bowl,” released on April 7, 2026, it has expanded across multiple menu items — as a sauce option for the Cheese-Filled Hamburg Steak, and as the Umatoma Hamburg Steak at Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza, among others. This time, that tomato flavor familiar from beef bowls and hamburg steaks has been carried over onto Junk Garage’s cold mazesoba and reworked into the spicy-savory Chiritoma.

Editor's Note

Bringing out a cold dish at the peak of summer heat — bold move. There's something oddly convincing about that line, "There's nothing to do but slurp it down!"
