Matsuya to Release "Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set" for 1,300 Yen on August 18
Matsuya, the beef bowl / curry / set meal / bowl chain, will begin selling a new menu item that combines two Miyazaki Prefecture local dishes — the “Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set” (1,300 yen, tax included) — from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. This was announced in an official notice dated August 13. The “Chicken Nanban Set Meal” (980 yen) and “Chicken Nanban Only” (780 yen) will launch at the same time. The rollout covers Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding some stores, though Okinawa stores will not carry the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set.
Three Items, with Hiyajiru Replacing Miso Soup in the Set
The following three items are being released this time. All prices listed in the official notice are tax included, and shareholder benefit vouchers can be used on all of them.

The star of the show is “Chicken Nanban,” juicy chicken paired with umami-rich tartar sauce. While the set meal comes with miso soup, the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set swaps out the soup slot for hiyajiru instead, so it does not come with miso soup. According to the official notice, the Chicken Nanban Set Meal does not come with miso soup for takeout orders either.
The accompanying “hiyajiru” is known for a taste that’s “rich yet refreshing,” built on umami-packed dashi. It includes tofu and crisp-textured vegetables, and according to the official notes, it uses canned mackerel that has been cooked until the bones are soft enough to eat.
From Debut on August 4 to Its Own Set in Two Weeks
“Hiyajiru” is a menu item that has only recently begun appearing in official notices. Looking back through past notices, hiyajiru first appeared as the main subject in the “Hiyajiru Set,” released two weeks ago on August 4, making this its second appearance.

A “Miyazaki Duo” Three Months in the Making
The pairing of hiyajiru and chicken nanban was foreshadowed earlier. On May 7, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) featured both dishes together under the caption “Here are the Miyazaki specialties ‘hiyajiru’ and ‘chicken nanban’!” and solicited feedback on a test sale. About three and a half months later, the two dishes have now been officially turned into a single set.
This time, Chicken Nanban arrives in three forms together: on its own for 780 yen, as a set meal for 980 yen, and as the dedicated “Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set” with hiyajiru added for 1,300 yen. The highlight is the set that pairs two Miyazaki specialties together on a single plate. The official notice describes hiyajiru and chicken nanban as a “Miyazaki local dish duo,” promoting it as a luxurious summer set meal with the chilled-dish catchphrase “rich yet refreshing.”
Price Positioning: Mid-Range Among Set Meals, Matching the Beef Bowl Bento 2-Pack Set
At 1,300 yen, the set sits in the middle of Matsuya’s current set meal price range (730 yen to 1,780 yen). It comes just above the Yakiniku Pork Loin Set Meal (Double) at 1,280 yen, and just below the Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal (Double) and the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese Fresh Vegetable Salad Set at 1,340 yen — exactly matching the Beef Bowl Bento 2-Pack Set (Large Serving) at 1,300 yen.
Looking at individual items, the 980-yen Chicken Nanban Set Meal falls between the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Sunny-side Up Set Meal (Single) at 930 yen and the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese Set Meal (Single) at 1,030 yen, while the 780-yen Chicken Nanban Only sits just below the Yakiniku Pork Loin Set Meal (Only) at 790 yen.
Simply adding Hiyajiru Only (390 yen) and the Chicken Nanban Set Meal (980 yen) comes to 1,370 yen, making the 1,300-yen set price 70 yen cheaper than that total. This is just a rough comparison based on adding tax-included prices, but it matches the same 70-yen discount that was applied to set meals in the Hiyajiru Set released on August 4, suggesting a consistent value gained through bundling.
70-Yen-Off Coupon for the Chicken Nanban Set Meal, Launching at 10 a.m. on August 18
The launch announcement image also mentions the distribution of a “70 Yen Off Coupon” for the Chicken Nanban Set Meal. The distribution period runs from 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25.
The release date is 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. It will be available at Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding some stores, and as noted above, Okinawa stores will not carry the Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set. All items are available for takeout.
