Matsuya Musashimurayama Store: New Location Opens About 150m Away, One Hour After September 1 Closure

Matsuya locations in Tokyo are seeing a string of closures and renovations. The most eye-catching case is Musashimurayama Store in Musashimurayama City, Tokyo: about an hour after the old store closes at 9:00 a.m. on September 1, a new store under the same name opens roughly 150m away at 10:00 a.m. the same day. At the same time, temporary closure and reopening plans have also come to light for Kami-Shakujii Store in Nerima Ward and Hongo 3-chome Store in Bunkyo Ward.

Musashimurayama Store: New Matsunoya Co-located Store Opens 150m Away, One Hour After Closing

Matsuya Musashimurayama Store (0060), which has been operating at 3-37-2 Gakuen, Musashimurayama City, Tokyo, will close as of 9:00 a.m. on September 1, 2026. One hour later, at 10:00 a.m. the same day, a new store (2319) carrying the same name, “Matsuya Musashimurayama Store,” will open about 150m away at 4-112-1 Shinmei, Musashimurayama City.

While the old store was a standalone location without an attached Matsunoya, the new store will be a combined format with an attached Matsunoya serving tonkatsu. With the closure and the opening at a nearby site both set for the same day, this appears to be a rebuild-and-relocate move to a nearby location. Musashimurayama City will continue to have just one Matsuya store, so the total store count is unchanged.

Kami-Shakujii Store to Reopen September 18 with an Attached Matsunoya

Matsuya Kami-Shakujii Store (0338) will enter a temporary closure (suspension of operations) starting at 3:00 p.m. today, August 4, and reopen at 10:00 a.m. on September 18 — a closure period of about 45 days. The closure period itself had been announced previously, but it has now newly come to light that after reopening, the store will become a combined format with an attached Matsunoya.

Of Matsuya’s 17 stores in Nerima Ward, four — including Kami-Shakujii Store — will now have an attached Matsunoya. Shakujiidai Store, Toshimaen Store, and Oizumi Gakuenmachi Store already have an attached Matsunoya, and Kami-Shakujii Store will follow suit.

Matsunoya co-location continues to spread across Matsuya as a whole — currently 474 of all 1,208 stores, or just under 40%, are Matsunoya co-located stores. This case can be seen as part of a broader wave of renovations converting standalone Beef Bowl stores into combined stores that also offer tonkatsu, happening in locations nationwide.

Hongo 3-chome Store to Temporarily Close from August 19, Reopen September 4

Matsuya Hongo 3-chome Store (0189) will temporarily close (suspend operations) starting at 3:00 p.m. on August 19 and reopen at 10:00 a.m. on September 4. Its address, 2-27-16 Hongo, Bunkyo Ward, and its coordinates remain unchanged, and its brand configuration also stays the same, without an attached Matsunoya. Since the address and location aren’t moving at all, this appears to be a temporary closure for renovation or similar work — it does not involve co-location like the Musashimurayama or Kami-Shakujii stores.

Temporary Closures for Renovation Are the Norm Across Matsuya

The pattern of temporary closure for renovation followed by reopening is one that’s constantly underway across Matsuya as a whole. Even at this moment, roughly ten stores — including the three covered here — have set closing and reopening dates, taking their noren down and putting them back up in turn. Conversions from standalone stores to Matsunoya co-located stores, along with multi-week closures for equipment upgrades, are occurring on a rolling basis at stores nationwide.

Cases like Musashimurayama Store, where a closure and a nearby opening are scheduled for the same day, stand out, but they too are part of this same ongoing pattern of renovation and rebuilding.
