On August 18, 2026, Matsuya Foods announced that Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza Store, its prepared-meal retail store, will release the “Kujo Green Onion and Duo Pork Salt Sauce Box” (1,300 yen) and the “Kobe Beef Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl” (1,650 yen) at 11 a.m. on August 19. A double-meat variation of the Kobe Beef Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl, priced at 2,340 yen, will also be available. Both items put Kujo green onion front and center for summer, marking the store’s third lineup expansion following its June opening and the addition of prepared side dishes in late July.

The Teaser of “Green Onion, Meat, Salt Sauce” From a Few Days Ago Now Has a Name and Price

Matsuya PREMIUM’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) had posted a series of teasers ahead of today’s announcement. On August 14, a post listed only the elements “Green onion, meat, salt sauce…?” and the following day, August 15, another post previewed more to come: “It seems a new item from Matsuya PREMIUM is coming soon.” Both the product name and the price stayed under wraps until this announcement on August 18, which revealed all three at once: the identity — “Kujo Green Onion and Duo Pork Salt Sauce Box” — the 1,300 yen price, and the August 19 release date. The three elements lined up in the teasers, “green onion, meat, salt sauce,” turn out to map directly onto the contents of this salt sauce box.

The salt sauce box is built around a blended sauce of three salts — Hanamo Salt from the Seto Inland Sea, Shima Mahsu from Okinawa, and Lorraine rock salt. It layers Thick Pork and Pork Shoulder Loin — both domestic pork prized for the balance of fat sweetness and umami — served as a “Duo,” topped generously with sweet Kujo green onion. The official account describes it as “a confident dish where the carefully crafted salt sauce brings out the character of the ingredients to their fullest, refreshingly satisfying summer appetites.” In the photo, the item comes in a jubako-style box — a black wood-grain container layered with a gold inner tray — with grilled Thick Pork and Pork Shoulder Loin piled with white sesame seeds and finely chopped Kujo green onion on top. Using a flat box rather than a bowl reflects the takeout-first, prepared-meal retail format the store shares with its side-dish lineup.

Menu items carrying the “salt sauce” name have appeared at regular Matsuya stores several times before — the 2015 “Extra Green Onion! Salt Sauce Pork with Grated Domestic Yam Paste Set Meal,” the 2018 “Salt Sauce Pork Boneless Short Rib Set Meal,” and the 2024 “Extra Green Onion Salt Sauce Pork Boneless Short Rib Set Meal,” each a familiar pairing of pork and salt sauce. This time, that same salt sauce arrives at Matsuya PREMIUM in the form of Kujo green onion paired with a duo of domestic pork cuts.

Released the same day, the Kobe Beef Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl layers Kujo green onion and the soft-boiled egg “Maximum Koitamago” over the Kobe beef the store built its name on. The official account calls it a luxurious taste where the umami of the Kobe beef, the crisp texture of the Kujo green onion, and the mellowness of the soft-boiled egg arrive as a “trinity.” In the photo, a round bowl holds beef and onion topped with a generous serving of Kujo green onion and a soft-boiled egg at the center, finished with a reddish-brown sauce. With the egg and green onion covering nearly the entire surface, the look sets it apart from a regular Matsuya beef bowl.

The store’s “Kobe Beef Bowl” first appeared in April 2025 as a week-long limited sale at a food event on the basement first floor of Matsuya Ginza, priced at 1,100 yen at the time. When the store became permanent in June 2026, the price shifted to 1,390 yen (2,080 yen for double meat). The new Kobe Beef Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl joins this Kobe beef lineage as a premium addition, adding Kujo green onion and a soft-boiled egg.

A Price Bracket Above the Standard Bowls

Of the two new items, the 1,650 yen Kobe Beef Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl sits above the price bracket of Matsuya’s regular standard bowls. Among regular-menu bowl items, the “Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef Double” tops out at 1,470 yen, and this new Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl exceeds it by 180 yen. The double-meat version, at 2,340 yen, exceeds the 2,080 yen Double-Meat Kobe Beef Bowl that was the store’s opening-day flagship by 260 yen, putting it above anything the store has offered before.

Menu Item Price
Kujo Green Onion and Duo Pork Salt Sauce Box (new) 1,300 yen
Kobe Beef Bowl (June opening) 1,390 yen
Kobe Beef Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl (new) 1,650 yen
Double-Meat Kobe Beef Bowl (June opening) 2,080 yen
Double-Meat Kobe Beef Green Onion & Egg Beef Bowl (new) 2,340 yen

The salt sauce box, on the other hand, is on the more modest side within Matsuya PREMIUM’s lineup at 1,300 yen — in the same range as regular Matsuya set meals such as the 1,300-yen-class Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set. That said, Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza Store is a prepared-meal retail format located inside Matsuya Ginza and counts as a separate service from regular Matsuya stores. The official account also notes that shareholder benefit vouchers cannot be used there.

Release at 11 a.m. on August 19, Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza Store Only

The release begins at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. All prices include tax, and availability is limited to Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza Store. Having launched with the Kobe Beef Bowl and other items in June and added three prepared side dishes including Simmered Kobe Beef in August, the store is once again expanding its lineup — this time with a box and a beef bowl built around summer Kujo green onion.

Editor's Note

A single beef bowl topping 2,000 yen — when it's Kobe beef in Ginza, this is a bowl that goes beyond the usual Matsuya price sense.
