Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted on the morning of July 26, 2026, the Day of the Ox itself: “Today is the Day of the Ox! Let’s eat grilled eel bowls at Matsuya.” After mentioning that “a great-value Grilled Eel Bowl Bento bulk-buy set is also available,” it closed on a light note: “How many pieces of eel should I eat today?”

A Two-Week Day of the Ox Push Built Up Since the June 23 Launch

This year the Day of the Ox falls on a single day, July 26. Since launching all six items of its grilled eel bowl series at 10 a.m. on June 23, Matsuya has layered on announcements in stages toward this day. On July 16 it began accepting Matsuben Net advance reservations for the takeout-only Grilled Eel Bowl Bento Set; from around July 20 it announced a campaign adding points to app orders; on the night of July 23 it closed advance reservations for the bento set; and on the previous day, the 25th, it teased “Tomorrow is the Day of the Ox.” Today’s post is the same-day capstone to that series of promotions.

In-Store Grilled Eel Bowls Start at 980 Yen, Six Items Across Bowls and Plates

The image attached to the post uses a light-blue wave pattern as its background, with “Let’s eat Matsuya’s grilled eel bowls” in large brush-style lettering and “Today is the Day of the Ox” at the upper right. Three items are shown: the Grilled Eel Bowl (980 yen) served on a plate, the Eel Combo Beef Bowl (1,180 yen), which tops a beef bowl with eel, and the Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl (1,180 yen), which layers eel over a soft, thick rolled omelet. All come with miso soup, but a note at the bottom of the image says, “The Grilled Eel Bowl is not eligible for MATSUYA PASS” and “Miso soup is not included with takeout.”

The grilled eel bowl series launched on June 23 consists of six items: three bowls with eel over rice and three side-dish plates sold on their own. As of July 26, all of them are still on the in-store menu, and prices remain unchanged from launch.

Takeout Bulk-Buy Sets and Points for App Orders

The “Grilled Eel Bowl Bento bulk-buy set” mentioned in the post lets customers buy takeout-only grilled eel bowl bentos in bulk, with regular prices of 1,960 yen for the 2-piece set and 2,940 yen for the 3-piece set. For Matsuben Net advance reservations, the 2-piece set came with 320 yen off plus 200 Matsuya Points, and the 3-piece set with 400 yen off plus 300 points. Reservations closed at 11:59 p.m. on July 23, and today, the 26th, is the pickup day.

A points-boost campaign for app orders is also continuing. From 12:00 a.m. on July 21 to 11:59 p.m. on July 27, ordering eligible grilled eel bowl items (the Grilled Eel Bowl, Fluffy Egg Grilled Eel Bowl, Eel Combo Beef Bowl, the 2-piece Grilled Eel Bowl set, and others) through Matsuben Net or Matsuya Mobile Order earns 100 Matsuya Points per meal. Matsuben Delivery is not eligible. Today, the day of the Ox itself, falls within this period.
