Matsuya's Futamatase and Asakusabashi-Minami Stores Both Add Matsunoya Co-location Amid Simultaneous Temporary Closures

Matsuya Futamatase store (0702) and Matsuya Asakusabashi-Minami store (1950) entered temporary closures on the exact same schedule — from 3:00 PM on July 23 to 10:00 AM on August 7 — and it has come to light that, in step with these closures, both stores switched their listing to “Matsunoya co-located.” The temporary closures at both stores had each been announced in early July, but at the time there was no mention of any change to the co-located brand; the switch to Matsunoya co-location only became apparent once the closures began.

Two stores far apart, in Fukuoka and Tokyo, sharing a schedule down to the minute

Futamatase store is located in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, while Asakusabashi-Minami store is in Chuo Ward, Tokyo — roughly 900 kilometers apart in a straight line. Despite this, the temporary closures at both stores match completely in both date and time: opening at 3:00 PM on July 23, and reopening at 10:00 AM on August 7. This amounts to a closure of a little over two weeks, spanning a renovation period.

The nature of the switch differs between the two stores. Futamatase store had until now been a standalone store with no co-located brand, and this time newly became a Matsunoya co-located store. Asakusabashi-Minami store, on the other hand, had until now been listed as a store co-located with My Curry Shokudo, and this time switched from My Curry Shokudo co-location to Matsunoya co-location. The switch from My Curry Shokudo co-location to Matsunoya co-location has been seen at multiple stores in recent months, and this instance at Asakusabashi-Minami store falls in line with that trend.

Store composition in Higashi Ward and Chuo Ward respectively

With the switch at Futamatase store, Matsuya stores in Higashi Ward, Fukuoka City, now form a lineup of one store each: Futamatase store for Matsunoya co-location, and Matsuya Fukuoka-Hakozaki store for My Curry Shokudo co-location. Across Fukuoka Prefecture as a whole, there are multiple Matsuya stores with Matsunoya co-location in various locations, and Futamatase store is positioned as one of them.

Chuo Ward, Tokyo, currently has seven Matsuya stores, of which two now have Matsunoya co-location: Asakusabashi-Minami store and Matsuya Kayabacho store. With Asakusabashi-Minami store dropping its My Curry Shokudo co-location, there is currently no Matsuya store with My Curry Shokudo co-location in Chuo Ward.

Okayama-Omotecho store gets a separate, short-duration closure

At the same time, a temporary closure has also been added for Matsuya Okayama-Omotecho store (2259). However, this one involves no change to its co-located brand — it already operates as a Matsunoya co-located store. The closure runs for roughly 18 hours, from 11:00 PM on July 28 to 5:00 PM on July 29, differing greatly in both schedule and length from the roughly two-week renovation closures at Futamatase and Asakusabashi-Minami stores.

Okayama-Omotecho store is a newly opened store that only opened on April 28, and fine-tuning of its operations has continued since opening — even a change to its phone number was recorded the day after opening. Okayama City currently has five Matsuya stores: three with Matsunoya co-location (Okayama-Ekimae store, Okayama-Tokaichi store, and Okayama-Omotecho store), one with My Curry Shokudo co-location (Okayama-Shimonakano store), and one with no co-located brand (Okayama-Ekinishiguchi store).
