A large-scale change to the Lunch Sets appeared in Matsuya’s menu data at 10:58 on April 28. At the same time, a discontinuation notice was added to two Chicken Butter items.

Two Chicken Butter Items Get a “To Be Discontinued Successively” Notice

The two Chicken Butter items, which returned on March 31 after a two-year absence, received a discontinuation notice about a month later. Following the recent delisting of the “Garlic Butter Pork Short Rib & Egg Bowl,” the Chicken Butter series appears to be heading toward its end in earnest.

Choice of Side in Lunch Sets Cut From 10 to 4

The 10 sides available when the Lunch Sets were renewed on April 7 have been substantially pared down.

Detailed Conditions on Egg Sides

Raw Egg is now “Beef Bowl Lunch Set only,” while Soft-boiled Egg is “not available with the Beef Bowl Lunch Set,” making the two conditions mutually exclusive. This means:

• Beef Bowl Lunch Set (530 yen): only Raw Egg can be added
• The other 5 Lunch Sets: Soft-boiled Egg can be added, Raw Egg cannot

In other words, a new restriction has been introduced: customers of the cheapest Beef Bowl Lunch Set can no longer choose the Soft-boiled Egg, the more popular option.

Lunch Set Images Updated at the Same Time

Images for the five choice-of-side items (Umatoma Cheese, Green Onion & Egg, Oni-oroshi Grated Radish, Cheese, and Kimchi) were also replaced, from the version shot on April 7 to a version shot on April 24. The reshoot appears to have been done to match the revised side lineup.

The “Lunch Set with Choice of 60 Dishes” Combination Count Plummets

The catchphrase was “Lunch Set with Choice of 60 Dishes,” but with the sides cut from 10 to 4, the total drops sharply to 6 mains × 4 sides = 24 combinations. Factoring in the egg restrictions, the practical number is even lower.

At the April 7 announcement, the pitch was “60 options to mark the 60th anniversary,” but within just three weeks the number of combinations has fallen to less than half.
