Matsuya Hongo 3-chome Store Reopens September 4 as a Matsunoya Co-located Store

Matsuya Hongo 3-chome Store (0189) in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, reopened at 10:00 a.m. on September 4. The reopening followed a renovation closure that began at 3:00 p.m. on August 19, and as announced in advance on the official website, the store has newly begun operating with a co-located Matsunoya. The closure period lasted about 16 days.

About 16 Days After the Renovation Closure, a Reopening as Announced

On the store information page of Matsuya’s official website, the listing for Hongo 3-chome Store carried a note reading “*Temporarily closed from 3:00 p.m. on August 19, reopening at 10:00 a.m. on September 4,” disclosing the closure and reopening schedule in advance. At the same time, “(Matsunoya Co-located)” was added to the store name, signaling that renovation work to add a co-located Matsunoya would take place during the closure.

On September 4, the note about the temporary closure and the scheduled reopening date were removed, and the store name is now officially displayed as “Matsuya Hongo 3-chome Store (Matsunoya Co-located).” This means operations as a Matsunoya co-located store began exactly as scheduled, at 10:00 a.m. on September 4. The address is 2-27-16 Hongo, Bunkyo Ward — the same location as before the closure, reopened after renovation.

This Summer’s Continuing Wave of Renovation Closures for Matsunoya Co-location

Temporary closures for Matsunoya co-location renovations, followed by reopening, have been occurring one after another at Matsuya locations across the country this summer. Like Hongo 3-chome Store, a series of stores have followed the same pattern: adding “(Matsunoya Co-located)” to the store name, closing temporarily, and reopening on a set date after renovation.

As of September 4, the official website lists Matsuya Kami-Shakujii Store (0338) as scheduled to open on September 18 at 10:00 a.m., and Matsuya Kitano Store (0991) as scheduled to open on September 9 at 10:00 a.m., both currently closed for the same kind of renovation. Hongo 3-chome Store is one of the stores that reopened ahead of these.

Two of Bunkyo Ward’s Seven Matsuya Stores Now Co-located with Matsunoya

With the reopening of Hongo 3-chome Store, two of Bunkyo Ward’s seven Matsuya stores are now co-located with Matsunoya. Bunkyo Ward has seven stores — Sengoku Store, Sendagi Store, Kasuga Store, Hongo 3-chome Store, Edogawabashi Store, Hakusan Store, and Myogadani Store — of which only Hongo 3-chome Store and Hakusan Store (0126) are co-located with Matsunoya. Myogadani Store (0861) is co-located with My Curry Shokudo, and the remaining four stores are standalone stores with no co-located brand.

Matsunoya co-located stores account for 52 of Matsuya’s 337 stores in Tokyo, or about 15.4%. Nationwide, 482 of 1,214 stores (about 39.7%) are co-located with Matsunoya, meaning the co-location rate within Tokyo is lower than the national average. Hongo 3-chome Store has now joined the relatively small group of Matsunoya co-located stores in the capital.
