Matsuya Hongo 3-chome Store to Add Matsunoya Co-location After Reopening From Renovation on September 4
This article has a newer version
The notation “(Matsunoya Co-located)” has been added to the store name of Matsuya Hongo 3-chome Store (0189), revealing that this store at 2-27-16 Hongo, Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, will become a Matsunoya co-located store across its renovation. The store has been closed since 3:00 PM on August 19, and is scheduled to operate as a Matsunoya co-located store after reopening at 10:00 AM on September 4.
A Change From the “No Co-location” Plan Shown as of August 4
The schedule for Hongo 3-chome Store’s closure and reopening (3:00 PM on August 19 through 10:00 AM on September 4) had already been shown on the official website as of August 4. At that time, there was no change to the store’s location, and the store name carried no Matsunoya co-location notation, so it appeared the store would continue operating as a standalone store without Matsunoya even after the renovation.
This time, “(Matsunoya Co-located)” has been added to the store name. It appears the store will operate as a Matsunoya co-located store after reopening on September 4. Since the store is still in its closure period and the change will not take effect until after the reopening date, this is currently at the stage of “scheduled to reopen with Matsunoya co-located.”
Second Matsunoya Co-location Among Bunkyo Ward’s Matsuya Stores
There are seven Matsuya stores in Bunkyo Ward. Hongo 3-chome Store will become the second to have Matsunoya co-located, following Hakusan Store (0126), located about 1.9 km away.
| Store | Co-located Brand |
|---|---|
| Hongo 3-chome Store | Matsunoya (after reopening) |
| Hakusan Store | Matsunoya |
| Myogadani Store (0861) | My Curry Shokudo |
| Sengoku Store (0479) | None |
| Sendagi Store (0301) | None |
| Kasuga Store (1829) | None |
| Edogawabashi Store (0746) | None |
The nearest Matsuya to Hongo 3-chome Store is Suidobashi Store (0675, Chiyoda Ward), about 931 meters away, followed by Kasuga Store at about 957 meters — both standalone stores without Matsunoya. Amid a lineup of standalone stores within a 1 km radius, Hongo 3-chome Store alone will switch to Matsunoya co-location.
Matsunoya Co-locations Occurring One After Another Nationwide
A store name gaining the “(Matsunoya Co-located)” notation alongside a temporary closure, followed by a switch to Matsunoya co-location — the same type of change seen at Hongo 3-chome Store has been confirmed one after another at Matsuya stores nationwide since this spring. Besides switches from standalone stores without co-location to Matsunoya co-location, there are also cases where stores that had My Curry Shokudo co-located are replaced with Matsunoya. Recently, the same kind of change has been seen at Kami-Shakujii Store, Futamatase Store and Asakusabashi-Minami Store, Nirasaki Store, and Gokasho Store, among others, with Hongo 3-chome Store now joining this trend.
Matsuya stores with Matsunoya co-located number 476 nationwide, with Tokyo having the most at 51 stores by prefecture (second is Saitama Prefecture with 43, third is Osaka Prefecture with 37). Of Tokyo’s 338 Matsuya stores, this works out to roughly 15% having Matsunoya co-located. Even in Bunkyo Ward, where standalone stores without co-location remain the mainstream, Matsunoya co-located stores are increasing one by one.

It looks like Hongo 3-chome is about to become another place where you can order both Beef Bowl and Loin Katsu under one roof.
