Matsuya Chatan Mihama Store Reopens at 3 PM on August 27, as Announced

StoreUpdated

Matsuya Chatan Mihama Store (1966) in Chatan Town, Nakagami District, Okinawa Prefecture, has reopened at 3 PM on August 27. The store’s listing had carried a notice reading “*Temporarily closed from 3 PM on August 24, reopening at 3 PM on August 27,” reflecting the closure that began at 3 PM on the 24th. As of 3 PM on the 27th, that notice has been removed and the listing has returned to showing regular operation. The reason for the closure is not stated in the store listing and remains undisclosed.

Reopening as Announced

The closure was not sudden — as early as August 12, the store listing had already announced the “temporary closure from 3 PM on August 24, reopening at 3 PM on the 27th” in advance. This time, the store returned to regular operation on exactly the date and time originally scheduled. The closure lasted three days, spanning two full days in between.

Second Reopening from a Closure in August Alone

This marks the second time Chatan Mihama Store has closed in August. The first was on August 7, when not just Chatan Mihama Store but Matsuya locations across Okinawa Prefecture all closed together during the same time window, with store listings carrying the note “reopening depending on weather conditions.” The following day, August 8, all the stores returned to showing regular operation.

This time, however, the closure from August 24 to 27 applied only to Chatan Mihama Store — no other stores in Okinawa Prefecture showed a closure notice during the same period. Unlike the first instance, which was a prefecture-wide closure, this was an isolated, short-term closure at a single store.

10 Stores in Okinawa, and Chatan Mihama Is the Only One in Chatan Town

Matsuya operates over 1,200 stores nationwide, but only 10 of them are in Okinawa Prefecture — among the fewest of any prefecture. That’s far below Tokyo’s 338 stores or Kanagawa Prefecture’s 112, for comparison. Chatan Mihama Store is the only Matsuya in Chatan Town; the nearest other Matsuya locations are Ginowan Store (2302), about 4.6 km away, followed by Okinawa Chibana Store (2520), about 7.9 km away — the prefecture’s Matsuya stores are scattered far apart from one another.

The store format also shows a regional pattern. Nine of Okinawa Prefecture’s 10 stores are co-located with Matsunoya, while the remaining one, Naha Shintoshin Store, is co-located with My Curry Shokudo. There is no standalone-format Matsuya in Okinawa Prefecture. Chatan Mihama Store is also a Matsunoya co-located store, so with its reopening, both the Matsuya and Matsunoya sides of this location have returned to regular operation.

Editor's Note

A reopening that kept its promise to the letter. Many in Chatan were likely looking forward to their first Beef Bowl in three days.
