On August 15, Matsuya Foods’ official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted to note that the ongoing “Midsummer Waku Waku Project: Free Service Voucher Distribution Campaign” is nearing its end. The post centers on the service vouchers that reward one plate of Small Serving Boneless Short Rib when three are collected, and it notably included tips on how to claim them. Voucher distribution runs through 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25.

Three Types of Vouchers, and “Three for a Small Serving Boneless Short Rib”

The three free service vouchers being distributed are for Small Serving Potato Salad, Small Serving Kimchi, and Roasted Seaweed. With each order of a main menu item, one of these three can be claimed for free. The blurb printed on each voucher reads: for Small Serving Potato Salad, “Great as a palate cleanser, or as a topping for your fresh vegetable salad!”; for Small Serving Kimchi, “A perfect accent to meat dishes!”; and for Roasted Seaweed, “Wrap it around your rice for double the enjoyment!” The Roasted Seaweed voucher carries an additional note: “Not available for takeout.”

Collecting three of these vouchers earns a plate of Small Serving Boneless Short Rib. Small Serving Boneless Short Rib does not appear on the regular menu, and appears to be a dish prepared specifically as a reward for this campaign. The voucher states that distribution runs through 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, and that the voucher itself is valid through the end of September 2026.

A Tip for Claiming the Voucher, Timed Around the Grilling Wait

This post specifically explained how to claim the Small Serving Boneless Short Rib. “Since Small Serving Boneless Short Rib takes time to grill, we recommend bringing your service vouchers to the counter right after ordering your main dish,” the account explained, suggesting that ordering a main item and then handing over the vouchers right away makes for a smoother pickup. With the August 25, 10:00 a.m. deadline in mind, the post also encouraged customers to “collect as many as you can!”, nudging them to gather vouchers with each visit during the campaign period.

The Voucher Campaigns Continue from the 60th Anniversary Celebration

This campaign is one of several projects commemorating Matsuya Foods’ 60th founding anniversary. It was announced in an official notice on August 10, and distribution began at 10:00 a.m. on August 11. Some stores are excluded, including Narita Airport Terminal 3 Store, Haneda Innovation City Store, stores in highway parking areas and service areas, and some bento-specialty stores.

Matsuya’s service voucher distribution has continued throughout this year. In April, a free voucher for one Side Dish item was distributed to mark the 60th anniversary, and in June, the official X account reissued a reminder of its end-of-June deadline. At the end of June, the official X account also presented two proposed formats for the next round of vouchers and invited followers to weigh in. This time’s “collect three for a reward” stamp-card format is a new design that builds on that earlier back-and-forth.

Separately, at the same time — 10:00 a.m. on August 11 — an X Coupon offer bringing Beef Bowl Regular Serving down from 460 yen to 390 yen also launched, and this latest post presented both promotions side by side.

Editor's Note

If you're after the Small Serving Boneless Short Rib, hand over your vouchers early — that way you can enjoy your main dish while it grills.
