Matsuya Brings Back 'Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal' for the First Time in About 7 Months, Launching June 30

Matsuya will launch the ‘Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal’ at Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding some stores, on June 30, 2026 (Tue) at 10:00. The announcement, posted on the official Matsuya website on June 25, states that the popular ‘Brown Sauce,’ whose discontinuation was mourned by fans, is making a comeback after about 7 months. The rich sauce, spreading the aroma and flavor of mushroom, comes in three variations: the classic version, one topped with Sunny-side Up egg, and one topped with Cheese.

Lineup and Pricing

The comeback lineup consists of three items: the basic ‘Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce,’ made with a hamburg steak of mixed ground beef and pork topped with Brown Sauce; the ‘Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Sunny-side Up,’ topped with a sunny-side up egg; and the ‘Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese,’ topped with melty cheese. Each is available as a ‘Set Meal,’ which includes Rice, Fresh Vegetable Salad, and Miso Soup, or as a ‘Rice Set,’ which includes Rice but not Fresh Vegetable Salad. All are available in three sizes: Single, Regular, and Triple.

All prices include tax. Takeout is also available; in that case, Miso Soup is charged separately.

In the announcement image, the Set Meal features the hamburg steak served in a dish bearing the Matsuya logo, alongside a Fresh Vegetable Salad with corn, Miso Soup, and Rice. The Cheese Brown version has white cheese covering the sauce, while the Egg Brown version has a soft Sunny-side Up egg on top of the hamburg steak; both have chopped green garnish scattered over the Brown Sauce.

Mushroom-Scented Brown Sauce Makes a Comeback

According to the official description, the Brown Sauce dish features a hamburg steak of mixed ground beef and pork, grilled to a plump, juicy finish, generously topped with a sauce that spreads the aroma and flavor of mushroom. It is described as “sure to satisfy, with the rich, deeply flavorful sauce combined with overflowing meat juices.” A takeout-friendly Rice Set is also being introduced at the same time for home dining tables.

The main announcement image prominently features the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce Set Meal (1,180 yen) alongside the copy “Living up to expectations, Brown is back.” In conjunction with the launch, the official Matsuya Foods app is distributing a coupon for up to 100 yen off; according to the image, it is valid from 10:00 on June 30 to 10:00 on July 7, meaning the coupon can be used from the very first week of the launch.
