Matsuya Adds Five New Flavors, Including Umatoma Cheese Simmered Beef & Onion, in New 'MATSUYA DELI' Series

MenuNew ReleaseUmatomaAdded

Matsuya began selling a new series aimed at home side dishes and drinking snacks, “MATSUYA DELI,” at 10:00 a.m. on September 1. As the first installment, variations of Simmered Beef & Onion have arrived: alongside the plain Simmered Beef & Onion, five new flavors have joined the lineup — Green Onion & Egg, Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce, Kimchi, Cheese, and Umatoma Cheese. The official announcement refers to each item with “DELI” appended, such as “Simmered Beef & Onion DELI,” but the names displayed on the menu page are simply “Simmered Beef & Onion,” and so on.

The Six Simmered Beef & Onion Items Added as MATSUYA DELI

The prices and nutritional information for the six Simmered Beef & Onion items introduced in the new series are as follows. Only the plain Simmered Beef & Onion comes in two sizes, Regular and Large Serving; all five new flavors are offered in a single size only.

Menu Item Price Energy Protein Fat Carbohydrates Salt Equivalent
Simmered Beef & Onion (Regular Serving) 370 yen 299kcal 9.8g 26.9g 4.3g 1.1g
Simmered Beef & Onion (Large Serving) 480 yen 377kcal 12.4g 33.7g 6.0g 1.6g

Umatoma Cheese Simmered Beef & Onion 600 yen 545kcal 21.3g 45.9g 11.1g 3.1g

The Price of Four of the Five New Variations Equals “Simmered Beef & Onion Plus Topping”

For four of the five newly added flavors, the price matches the plain Simmered Beef & Onion (370 yen) plus the existing price of the corresponding single topping, added exactly. Green Onion & Egg Simmered Beef & Onion is 570 yen, matching Simmered Beef & Onion plus Green Onion & Egg (200 yen Only).

Kimchi Simmered Beef & Onion is likewise 470 yen. This is the price with Mt. Fuji Kimchi (100 yen Only) added, so the two 100-yen toppings both land at 470 yen.

Cheese Simmered Beef & Onion is 570 yen, matching the amount with Extra Cheese (200 yen Only) added.

The most expensive of the six, Umatoma Cheese Simmered Beef & Onion (600 yen), is the exception: it is 30 yen higher than the 570 yen for Simmered Beef & Onion plus Cheese (200 yen), so it does not match a simple sum of single toppings. Since no single Umatoma sauce topping is sold on its own, the breakdown behind the price remains unclear. At 545kcal, it is about 1.8 times the plain Simmered Beef & Onion (Regular Serving, 299kcal), making it the most substantial of the six items.

Familiar Beef Bowl Flavors, Without the Rice

The flavorings behind the five newly added items — Green Onion & Egg, Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce, Kimchi, Cheese, and Umatoma Cheese — have all previously appeared as Beef Bowl variations. Three of them, Green Onion & Egg, Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce, and Kimchi, are also the flavors used in the ONE PIECE Collaboration sets that began on June 30, and Umatoma Cheese has likewise been offered as a set within that same collaboration. These are flavors familiar from the Beef Bowl, now extended into a rice-free Simmered Beef & Onion format meant as a side dish or drinking snack.

A Uniform 90 Yen Difference from the Corresponding Beef Bowl

Each Simmered Beef & Onion item is priced lower than its corresponding Beef Bowl by the cost of the rice and miso soup it omits, and that difference comes to exactly 90 yen in every case. Beef Bowl at 460 yen versus Simmered Beef & Onion at 370 yen, Kimchi Beef Bowl at 560 yen versus Kimchi Simmered Beef & Onion at 470 yen, Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce Beef Bowl at 560 yen versus its Simmered Beef & Onion counterpart at 470 yen, Cheese Beef Bowl at 660 yen versus Cheese Simmered Beef & Onion at 570 yen, and Umatoma Cheese Beef Bowl at 690 yen versus Umatoma Cheese Simmered Beef & Onion at 600 yen — all five pairs land on a 90 yen gap.

The five new Simmered Beef & Onion variations (Kimchi 470 yen, Oni-oroshi Grated Radish Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce 470 yen, Cheese 570 yen, Green Onion & Egg 570 yen, Umatoma Cheese 600 yen) now rank among the most expensive items in the current side dish lineup overall, second only to the store-limited Grilled Eel Plate (760 yen) and Eel & Simmered Beef & Onion Plate (960 yen).

The Plain Simmered Beef & Onion Carries Over Unchanged

The plain Simmered Beef & Onion (Regular Serving 370 yen, Large Serving 480 yen) has been relisted as part of the new series with its price, two-size lineup, nutritional values, and product photo all unchanged from before. This is not a price increase or a change in content, but simply an expansion of the lineup. Other existing side dishes, such as Small Serving Simmered Beef & Onion (200 yen), remain as they were; only the six Simmered Beef & Onion items have been folded into the new series.

A 13-Item Series, with the Remaining Items Yet to Appear

According to the official announcement, MATSUYA DELI is planned to expand to 13 items in total. As of September 1, only the six Simmered Beef & Onion items had appeared on the menu page; the remaining seven — “Founding Beef Curry and Rice DELI,” “Umatoma Hamburg Steak DELI,” “Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce DELI,” “Yakiniku Beef DELI,” “Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib DELI,” “Yakiniku Pork Loin DELI,” and “Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce DELI” — have not yet been listed. Once curry, hamburg steak, yakiniku, and ginger-fried pork main dishes are added, the series will significantly broaden its range of side dish options.

“Trial Fair” Running Through September 15

To coincide with the launch, a “Trial Fair” is running from 10:00 a.m. on September 1 through 10:00 a.m. on September 15. Bulk-purchase discounts are available, such as combining two Simmered Beef & Onion DELI items to bring the normal 840-yen-plus total down to 540 yen and up — 300 yen off a 2-item set and 450 yen off a 3-item set, with further discounts for app orders. After the fair ends, the discount will continue as a standard promotion of 200 yen off a 2-item set and 300 yen off a 3-item set.

Editor's Note

At 545 kcal, the Umatoma Cheese Simmered Beef & Onion comes in at nearly double the plain Simmered Beef & Onion (299 kcal). What was meant as a snack has quietly become the main event.
