On September 22, 2026, at 10 AM, Matsuya released its Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice, a Matsuya-style take on the authentic Indian curry “Palak Paneer,” at Matsuya locations nationwide, with some exceptions. Three more items were added in the same fetch: Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu, Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice, and Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice, bringing the curry lineup to four new items. The new series was announced in an official notice at 10:05 AM on September 17 under the nickname “Palak Paneer,” and its release was also previewed on the official X account on September 18 and the day before launch on the 21st. It has now arrived on the announced date.
Prices and Nutrition for the Four Items
The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice is listed at 660 yen for the Only version and 780 yen for the Regular Serving; the other items are listed in a single Regular Serving size. Nutrition information is as follows.
| Item | Price | Energy | Protein | Fat | Carbohydrates | Salt equivalent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice (Only) | 660 yen | 306kcal | 6.6g | 21.1g | 22.0g | 2.3g |
| Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice | 780 yen | 769kcal | 17.9g | 28.8g | 102.8g | 4.8g |
| Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu | 1,050 yen | 1,003kcal | 25.6g | 49.9g | 106.3g | 5.7g |
| Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice | 960 yen | 938kcal | 26.3g | 42.9g | 104.8g | 5.8g |
| Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice | 1,170 yen | 1,211kcal | 36.8g | 59.2g | 126.7g | 5.7g |
The lightest, the Only curry, comes in at 306kcal, while the heaviest, the Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice, reaches 1,211kcal. Although all carry the same “Spinach and Cottage Cheese” name, the energy varies by roughly a factor of four depending on what is paired with it.
What Each of the Four Items Is
The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice is built on Palak Paneer, a North Indian staple that pairs a spinach base with cottage cheese. Matsuya says it has prepared this authentic Indian curry in a “Matsuya-style arrangement.”
The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu pairs this green curry with Matsuya’s classic Beef Bowl, and at 1,050 yen it is the second most expensive of the four.
The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice adds chicken for 960 yen, and at 26.3g its protein is the second highest of the four, behind only the Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice.
Priced a Uniform 100 Yen Above the Classic Founding Beef Curry and Rice
Matsuya’s signature Founding Beef Curry and Rice is offered at 560 yen for the Only version and 680 yen for the Regular Serving. The new Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice is 660 yen for the Only version and 780 yen for the Regular Serving, exactly 100 yen higher in both. The Karegyu follows the same pattern, at 1,050 yen against 950 yen for the Founding Beef Karegyu. The Founding Beef Curry and Rice line was cut by 100 yen to 560 yen for the Only version on July 28, and measured against that standard price, the spinach series sits one tier higher.
The exception is the Chicken Curry and Rice: at 960 yen it is just 10 yen above the Founding Beef Karegyu (950 yen), making them nearly level. The Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice, at 1,170 yen, is the most expensive item in the current curry lineup. For reference, the similarly named Founding Beef Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice is a Store-limited item at 1,070 yen, so it cannot be compared directly with the chainwide lineup, but the new item is 100 yen higher. Lunch Sets are available for the Founding Beef Curry and Rice line, but none appear to exist for these four items at this time.
The Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice Was Not in the Announcements
The official notice on September 17 and the official X posts on September 18 and 21 listed three varieties plus the Only version: the Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice, Karegyu, and Chicken Curry and Rice. The Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice (1,170 yen), added at the same time, did not appear by product name in any of those announcements. It joined the lineup as the fourth item on the day of release.
The First New Curry Series in About 70 Days
Matsuya’s curry lineup has seen a rotation of Limited-time series such as the Beef Tongue Curry and Rice, Cream Butter Curry and Rice, and Neo Tomato Curry and Rice. Most recently, the Neo Tomato Curry and Rice line was discontinued on July 14, and about 70 days later the Spinach and Cottage Cheese series has joined. Variations on the Founding Beef Curry and Rice line have also appeared in the interim, so the curry section has not stood still.
As of 4:04 PM on September 22, Reclassified as Limited-time Menu
As of 4:04 PM on September 22, 2026, three items, the Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice, Karegyu, and Chicken Curry and Rice, are listed on Matsuya’s official website as Limited-time menu items. At launch they were in the regular menu category, but they have now moved into the Limited-time category.
As of 12:17 PM on September 24, Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice Also Moved to the Limited-time Category
As of 12:17 PM on September 24, 2026, the Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice is listed on Matsuya’s official website as a Limited-time menu item. At launch it was in the regular menu category.
Editor's Note
Green spinach, white cottage cheese. With even a Karegyu version topped with a beef bowl, this is unmistakably Matsuya curry.
