At 6:00 p.m. on September 18, Matsuya announced on its official X account the September 22 launch of a new curry, “Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice.” The item was first announced the previous day, September 17, in an official notice, making this post a reminder four days ahead of the launch.

X Announcement Rephrases the Official Notice

The post opens with “‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice’ launches Tuesday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m.🎉,” continues with “The curry fans have been waiting for✨” and “An authentic Indian curry, ‘Palak Paneer,’ with a Matsuya twist!,” and closes with “Be sure to give it a try✨.”

These phrases appear in almost the same form in the previous day’s official notice. That notice reads, “An authentic Indian curry that curry fans have been waiting for has arrived,” “We’ve given this curry, with its gentle vegetable sweetness and deep richness, a Matsuya twist,” and “Please enjoy this authentic spice curry that Matsuya proudly presents.” The X post condenses these three passages.

The sparkle emoji “✨,” which in past new-menu announcement posts appeared either not at all or only once, is used twice in this post’s text (the celebration emoji “🎉” appears once, as usual).

A North Indian Staple, “Palak Paneer,” Gets a Matsuya Twist

“Palak Paneer” is a North Indian staple curry made by simmering spinach (palak) with cottage cheese (paneer). This marks Matsuya’s first time offering the dish.

In the image accompanying the post, a deep green curry sauce dotted with white cottage cheese is served in a white bowl bearing the MATSUYA logo, set against a backdrop of the Indian flag. Copy at the top of the image reads, “Palak Paneer: the Indian curry only insiders know,” and “The sweetness and umami of spinach, with the creamy texture of cottage cheese.”

According to the official notice on Matsuya’s website, the price is 780 yen for the Set Meal (with rice and salad), and 660 yen Only. Adding Beef Bowl brings it to 1,050 yen as “Karegyu,” and adding chicken brings it to 960 yen as “Chicken Curry and Rice.” It will be available at Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding some stores, from 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 22.

Matsuya’s Indian Curries and the “Matsuya Twist”

Among Matsuya’s authentic Indian curries is “Chunky Chicken Butter Chicken Curry and Rice,” which first appeared in August 2019 and has since returned repeatedly, most recently in May 2026. This new Palak Paneer joins the lineup as a distinct Indian dish, separate from the Butter Chicken Curry and Rice. The 780-yen Set Meal price falls between the Butter Chicken Curry and Rice (980 yen) and Cream Butter Curry and Rice (730 yen) sold in May 2026.

The phrase “given a Matsuya twist” has previously been used in announcements introducing dishes with foreign origins. Examples include Georgian Shkmeruli and items made with Chimichurri Sauce, a sauce originating in Argentina — both cases where an overseas dish was adapted for Matsuya. This new Indian curry occupies the same position.

Editor's Note

Palak Paneer, a familiar favorite at Indian restaurants, now comes served in a Matsuya bowl. The deep green of the spinach makes a striking contrast with the white of the cottage cheese.
