Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) reported on the night of July 17, 2026, that it had ordered the “Kimkaru Bowl” (Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl) using the “MATSUYA PASS” discount card, sharing a photo with the post. The post says, “I got it for 70 yen off using MATSUYA PASS,” and continues, “It’s the same taste it has been ever since I started working at Matsuya as a high school student, and it makes me feel really nostalgic,” reminiscing about the classic bowl.

The Kimkaru Bowl is a staple Matsuya bowl: sweet soy sauce-glazed grilled pork paired with napa cabbage kimchi and topped with shredded nori. It is currently sold as a regular bowl, with the regular serving priced at 690 yen including tax. Four sizes are available, from the small serving at 660 yen to the extra-large serving at 1,090 yen.

In the photo, the bowl is heaped with fragrantly grilled pork and red-tinged kimchi, generously scattered with shredded nori on top. Behind the bowl sit a separately served soft-boiled egg and a thick miso soup (with fried tofu pouch and wakame). The official account also tried the Kimkaru Bowl with a soft-boiled egg in April, and this time it showed the same pairing again, mixing the egg into the bowl. The MATSUYA PASS card used for this bill sits at the front right of the tray, and its face shows that the eligible item is 100 yen off the regular price, that a second item is 70 yen off, and that the validity period runs from July 1 to July 31.

The post says “since I was in high school,” but it does not mention the actual length of service, and instead puts the nostalgia for an unchanging taste front and center. The Kimkaru Bowl was also one of the three eligible items in the app-exclusive “Bowl Bento Point Boost” from June 16 to 22, making it a classic bowl that gets featured again and again.

MATSUYA PASS Runs Through the End of July, Up to 100 Yen Off Eligible Items

The MATSUYA PASS used for this bill is the July edition of the discount card, announced on June 22 and available for early sale from June 26. It costs 200 yen including tax and is valid from July 1 through 23:59 on July 31. Eligible classic items get up to 100 yen off, among other discounts, and starting with the July edition, the eligible scope has been expanded so it can also be used at affiliated brands such as Matsunoya.

Since the July edition went on sale, the official X account has kept posting about this subscription pass almost every day, and on July 13 it urged followers not to forget to use it, with messaging that clearly keeps the remaining validity period in mind. This Kimkaru Bowl post is no exception: it closes with “Tonight, enjoy Kimkaru at a great price with Matsuya Pass!”, showing the discount in actual use in a single shot.
