Matsuya's Official X Account Tries Kimchi Kalbi Bowl: 'A Taste Unchanged Since My High School Days'
On the night of July 17, 2026, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) reported with photos that it had ordered a Kimchi Kalbi Bowl using the discount card “MATSUYA PASS.” The post noted, “I saved 70 yen by using MATSUYA PASS,” and added, “It’s tasted exactly the same ever since I started working at Matsuya as a high schooler, and it makes me really nostalgic,” reminiscing about the longtime menu staple.
“A Taste Unchanged Since My High School Days”: A Bowl Topped with Soft-boiled Egg
Kimchi Kalbi Bowl is a Matsuya staple that pairs pork grilled in a sweet soy sauce with napa cabbage kimchi, topped with shredded nori. It is currently sold as a regular menu item, with the Regular Serving priced at 690 yen (tax included). Four sizes are available, ranging from the Small Serving at 660 yen to the Extra-large Serving at 1,090 yen.
The photographed bowl is piled with fragrantly grilled pork and reddened kimchi, generously topped with shredded nori. Behind the bowl sit a side soft-boiled egg and a thick Miso Soup (with fried tofu and wakame). The official account also paired Kimchi Kalbi Bowl with a soft-boiled egg back in April, so this post shows the same combination of mixing in the egg. In the front right of the tray sits the “MATSUYA PASS” card used for this purchase; its face indicates that eligible items are discounted 100 yen off list price, with another item discounted 70 yen, and that the card is valid from July 1 to July 31.
While the post’s text references “since high school,” it does not mention the actual number of years worked, instead foregrounding nostalgia for the unchanged flavor. Kimchi Kalbi Bowl was also one of three items featured in the app-exclusive “Bowl & Bento Point Boost” campaign running from June 16 to 22, making it a recurring subject as a menu staple.
MATSUYA PASS Runs Through Late July, Offering Up to 100 Yen Off Eligible Items
The MATSUYA PASS used for this purchase is the July edition of the discount card, announced for sale on June 22 with early sales starting June 26. It is priced at 200 yen (tax included) and valid from July 1 through 11:59 p.m. on July 31. It offers discounts of up to 100 yen off eligible staple items, and starting with the July edition, its scope has been expanded to cover sister brands such as Matsunoya as well.
Since the July edition went on sale, the official X account has continued posting about this pass almost daily, including a July 13 reminder warning against “forgetting to use it,” with messaging that keeps drawing attention to the remaining validity period. This Kimchi Kalbi Bowl post, too, closes with “Tonight, be sure to enjoy Kimchi Kalbi at a discount with your Matsuya Pass!” — a snapshot that shows the discount actually being put to use.
Editor's Note
The combo of shredded nori and kimchi is the kind of thing that lets you polish off bowl after bowl of white rice. Mix in that side soft-boiled egg and the guilty pleasure doubles.
