Matsuya's Official X Visits Newly Opened 'Nishi-Urawa Station Store' First, Tastes the Revived Salt-based Green Onion Bowl
On July 4, 2026, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted a taste report saying it had gone to the newly opened ‘Matsuya/Matsunoya Nishi-Urawa Station store’ (2287) ‘as fast as possible,’ celebrating with ‘the revived Salt-based Green Onion Bowl and a cola.’ The new store opened in front of Nishi-Urawa Station in Sakura Ward, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, and the official account emphasized its convenient access, noting it is ‘just 10 seconds on foot from the ticket gate.’
Opened Beneath the Elevated Tracks, 10 Seconds from the Ticket Gate
One of the posted photos shows the exterior of the Nishi-Urawa Station store on opening day. The store, which combines Matsuya and Matsunoya, stands in what appears to be a space beneath the elevated railway tracks, with a flower stand celebrating the opening placed beside the entrance. Through the glass-walled storefront, a ticket vending machine and seating can be seen.
The Nishi-Urawa Station store is co-located with Matsunoya and operates 24 hours, located at 5-10-22 Tajima, Sakura Ward, Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture. It is the second Matsuya location in Sakura Ward. The official account noted it is ‘just 10 seconds on foot from the ticket gate,’ then added a quiz about Matsuya locations near train stations: ‘There’s a Matsuya even closer to a ticket gate than this (according to my own research). Which one could it be…?’
Where Is the ‘Even Closer Matsuya’? We Investigated in Earnest
We took this ‘which one could it be…?’ challenge seriously. The clue lies in the store name. Matsuya has many locations nationwide named after train stations, but most of them, such as ‘◯◯ Station-Front store’ or ‘◯◯ Station West Exit store,’ indicate a location in the vicinity of a station. On the other hand, a store that takes the name of the station itself—a pure ‘◯◯ Station store’—leaves only one such location nationwide besides the newly opened Nishi-Urawa Station store: ‘Matsuya Izumi-Chuo Station store’ (Semboku Rapid Railway Izumi-Chuo Station) in Izumi City, Osaka Prefecture.
This Izumi-Chuo Station store is located not in front of the station, but inside the station building itself. It stands just outside the ticket gate at Izumi-Chuo Station, the terminal station of the Semboku Rapid Railway, and customer reviews echo this, with comments such as ‘it’s inside the station concourse, just outside the ticket gate at Izumi-Chuo Station’ and ‘a Matsuya located inside Izumi-Chuo Station.’ Compared to the Nishi-Urawa Station store, said to be 10 seconds on foot from the ticket gate, this one is right in front of you the moment you pass through the ticket gate.
The official account has not revealed the answer to its own ‘research,’ but based on both the naming convention and the actual on-site location, we consider the Izumi-Chuo Station store the strongest candidate.
Celebrating the Revived Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl with a Cola
Another photo shows the bowl the official account tasted first. It is a Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl topped generously with chopped green onion, served alongside a cola and miso soup. The item the official account calls ‘the revived Salt-based Green Onion Bowl’ refers to the ‘Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl’ (630 yen), which returned to the regular menu on June 30, 2026, after about a month and a half off the menu.
At the front of the tray, four ‘Choose 1 of 4 Free Service Vouchers,’ apparently being handed out to commemorate the opening, are also visible, with the vouchers printed with an expiration date of ‘through the end of August 2026.’ They appear to be a perk allowing customers to choose a free item from options such as the Beef Bowl or toppings.
Editor's Note
Choosing a revived menu item as the first bowl at a brand-new store shows real attention to detail. As for the quiz about a Matsuya even closer than '10 seconds from the ticket gate,' based on the store name and its location, my money's on the Izumi-Chuo Station store. If I'm right, I'll allow myself a little pride.
