Matsuya's 'Meat Day' Brings Its First Mega-Serving Bowls, Including the Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl, Today Only

Matsuya’s official X account posted a same-day announcement on the morning of August 29 for “Meat Day” and “Yakiniku Day.” Beyond the Large Serving set meal discounts that have become a staple of the monthly “Meat Day” campaign, the post introduced “two bowls available today only.” The “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl” and the “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl” arrive in mega servings, with an extra-large portion of rice and double the meat, for one day only on August 29.

Two Bowls Available Today Only: Large Serving Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl and Large Serving Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl

According to the official announcement dated August 25, “Matsuya ‘Meat Day Campaign’ Underway! This Month, a One-Day-Only Mega Serving Arrives!”, the two bowls available today only are the “Large Serving Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl” (1,200 yen) and the “Large Serving Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl” (1,140 yen). Both come in a mega serving with an extra-large portion of rice and double the usual amount of meat. The campaign runs from 0:00 to 23:59 on August 29, 2026. It applies to orders placed through the Matsuya App and Matsuben Net at Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding the Haneda Innovation City store, the Narita Airport Terminal 3 store, and expressway parking area locations. Purchases at ticket vending machines or tablets, as well as Matsuben Delivery, are not eligible.

The promotional image shows two bowls side by side: the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl, generously topped with scallions and white sesame seeds, and the Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl, layered with kimchi and shredded nori. It carries the copy “Meat Day / Yakiniku Day” and “This month is different.” Macky, Matsuya’s official mascot, peeks in from the lower left.

First Bowls Added to the Three-Year Monthly “Meat Day”

Matsuya’s “Meat Day” campaign is a monthly promotion that has run almost without a break since October 2023. For nearly three years, it has consistently offered 200 yen off Large Serving yakiniku-style set meals such as the Yakiniku Beef Set Meal and the Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib Set Meal. This August, mega-serving bowls have been added to that standard discount, which is what sets it apart. Previous Meat Day campaigns offered only the 200 yen discount on Large Serving set meals, so this is the first time bowls are included. The “This month is different.” copy in the promotional image refers to this addition of bowls.

This time, the Large Serving set meals cover five items: Yakiniku Beef, Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib, Yakiniku Pork Loin, Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce, and Pork & Kimchi. Each is 200 yen off its regular price (the Large Serving Yakiniku Beef Set Meal goes from 1,380 yen to 1,180 yen). These are also exclusive to the Matsuya App and Matsuben Net.

From the Previous Night’s Teaser to the Same-Day Post

The two bowls had already been teased in an official X post at 22:00 on the 28th, the night before. That post opened with “Tomorrow is the 29th! That means it’s Meat Day. 🍖 And because it’s August 29, it’s also Yakiniku Day!” and announced ahead of time, “We’re selling mega servings of the Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl and the Salt-based Green Onion Bowl!!” Today’s post follows on from it, opening with “Today, August 29, is ‘Meat Day’ and also ‘Yakiniku Day’!” The wordplay linking August 29 to “Meat Day” and “Yakiniku Day” does not appear in the body of the official announcement; it is phrasing the official X account has carried over from the previous day. In this post, the emoticon ( ¯꒳¯ ) is used, rather than the (╹◡╹) that appeared in past Meat Day posts.

Both bowls are staples of the Matsuya lineup. The Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl is an existing item for which the official X account posted an eating report in July, and the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl is an item that launched on June 30 as a classic menu item after about a month and a half.
