Matsuya's 'Meat Day' Gets Its First-Ever Bakumori Bowls — Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and More, Today Only

On the morning of August 29, Matsuya’s official X account posted a same-day call-out for ‘Meat Day’ and ‘Yakiniku Day.’ Alongside the discount on Large Serving set meals that has become a fixture of the monthly Meat Day promotion, the post announced ‘two bowls available today only.’ The Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl, both served in Bakumori size — extra-large rice and double the meat — are available for a single day, August 29.

Two Limited-Time Bowls Today: Large Serving Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Large Serving Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl

According to the official announcement posted on August 25, ‘Matsuya’s “Meat Day” Promotion Is Here! This Month Only, a One-Day Bakumori Size Arrives!,’ the two bowls available today only are the Large Serving Kimchi Kalbi Bowl (1,200 yen) and the Large Serving Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl (1,140 yen). Both come in Bakumori size, with extra-large rice and double the usual amount of meat, and the offer runs from 0:00 to 23:59 on August 29, 2026. It applies at Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding the Haneda Innovation City Store, Narita Airport Terminal 3 Store, and expressway parking-area stores, and is limited to orders placed through the Matsuya App or Matsuben Net; purchases at ticket vending machines or tablets, and orders through Matsuben Delivery, are excluded.

Bowls Join the Monthly ‘Meat Day’ Promotion for the First Time in Three Years

Matsuya’s ‘Meat Day’ promotion has run almost every month since October 2023, consistently offering 200 yen off Large Serving yakiniku-style set meals such as the Yakiniku Beef Set Meal and Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib Set Meal for nearly three years. This August differs from past installments in that the Bakumori-size bowl menu has been added on top of this standard discount. Previous ‘Meat Day’ promotions offered only the 200 yen discount on Large Serving set meals, and this is the first time bowls have been included. The ‘This month is different’ copy on the announcement image refers to this addition of bowls.

This month’s Large Serving set meal discount covers the Large Serving size of five items — Yakiniku Beef, Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib, Yakiniku Pork Loin, Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce, and Pork & Kimchi — each 200 yen off the regular price (the Large Serving Yakiniku Beef Set Meal drops from 1,380 yen to 1,180 yen). This discount, too, is limited to orders through the Matsuya App or Matsuben Net.

The two bowls were already previewed the night before, in an official X post at 22:00 on the 28th. That earlier post opened with ‘Tomorrow is the 29th! That means it’s Meat Day. 🍖 And since it’s August 29, it’s also Yakiniku Day!,’ announcing the arrival of the bowls first with ‘We’re selling the Bakumori size of the Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and the Salt-based Green Onion Bowl!!’ Today’s post picks up from there, opening with ‘Today, August 29, is “Meat Day” and also “Yakiniku Day”!’ The wordplay reading ‘Meat Day’ and ‘Yakiniku Day’ into the date August 29 does not appear in the official announcement text; it is a phrase the official X account has used continuously since the previous night. This post uses the emoticon ( ¯꒳¯ ) rather than the (╹◡╹) used in past ‘Meat Day’ posts.

Note that both bowls are already-established items on Matsuya’s regular menu: the Kimchi Kalbi Bowl is a previously released product that the official X account posted an eating report about in July, and the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl is an item that returned to the regular lineup on June 30 after about a month and a half.
