Matsuya's Official X Account Poses Its Regular 'Which Matsuya Is This?' Store Quiz
On the evening of August 28, Matsuya’s official X account posted a single store photo with the caption “Which Matsuya is this (╹◡╹)”. It’s the latest round of the official X account’s regular store-guessing quiz, where readers are asked to identify the store shown in the photo.
The quiz: a dusk photo lined with stone-grilled menu items
The posted photo shows the exterior of a restaurant photographed around dusk, as the sun was starting to set. The facade features wooden vertical slats (louvers), with a large stone-grilled sign reading “Piping hot to the last bite.” Above the entrance is a sign reading “Stone-Grilled Bowl & Sundubu Restaurant,” and below it, three menu signs are lined up in vertical text: “Sundubu 780 yen,” “Charcoal-Grilled Yakiniku Bowl 880 yen,” and “Bibimbap 880 yen.” It’s a photo clearly different in character from Matsuya’s regular stores serving Beef Bowl, centered instead on stone-grilled dishes and Sundubu.
The caption is a short 14-character phrase, ending with the emoticon “(╹◡╹).” This wording is word-for-word identical to the store quiz posted on July 18, and (╹◡╹) is an emoticon the official account has used repeatedly.
“Which Matsuya Is This?” in quick succession since August
This store quiz is a regular feature that has been posted repeatedly on official X, and since entering August it has come out in quick succession, on the 5th, 9th, 18th, and 28th. Compared to July, when it appeared only once on the 18th, the pace of these quizzes has picked up.
In past rounds, the official account has sometimes revealed the answer the following day: for the August 5 quiz, “Shin-Matsudo Store” was announced on the 6th, and for a differently worded quiz on August 23, “Koka Minakuchi Store” was announced on the 24th. Both were regular Matsuya stores serving Beef Bowl, but this time the exterior shows a specialty format centered on stone-grilled dishes and Sundubu, a different look from previous rounds. There is a chance the answer to this quiz will also be revealed at a later date.
Editor's Note
Just the sign for piping-hot Sundubu and Bibimbap is enough to make my stomach growl through the photo. I'm curious whether an answer post will follow this time, too.
