At 5:51 PM on August 5, 2026, Matsuya’s official X account posted a single photo of a store’s exterior along with the caption, ‘Which Matsuya Is This? (╹◡╹)’. It’s the recurring store-location guessing quiz, but in all three previous rounds, the official account had let the question drift by without ever revealing the answer. This time, however, the official account quoted its own quiz post on the morning of August 6 and wrote, ‘Shin-Matsudo, correct! (´∀`)’. Counting from May, this was the fourth installment overall, and the first time an answer had ever been revealed. The correct answer was Matsuya Shin-Matsudo Store in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture.

The Morning After: The Official Account Reveals the Answer Itself via Quote Repost

The answer came at 7:16 AM on August 6, roughly 13 hours after the quiz was posted. The official account quoted its own quiz post and, responding as if to those who had guessed correctly, confirmed the store name with ‘Shin-Matsudo, correct!’ Ever since the first installment in May, the ‘Which Matsuya Is This?’ series had made a habit of leaving the question posted with no follow-up answer, so this marks the first time a reveal has ever been added.

The correct answer, Matsuya Shin-Matsudo Store (2323), is a 24-hour store co-located with Matsunoya, located on the first floor of the M-site Building in Shin-Matsudo 4-chome, Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. The Shin-Matsudo area also has a separate Matsuya Shin-Matsudo Nishiguchi Store (0674), which is not co-located with Matsunoya, so the name ‘Shin-Matsudo’ alone doesn’t pin down a single store — but the Matsunoya-co-located store in the photo pointed specifically to the Shin-Matsudo Store on the first floor of the M-site Building.

Three Unanswered Rounds Before This One — Now the Fourth Overall

This quiz follows the same ‘Which Matsuya Is This?’ format as three earlier installments: the first, at 6:18 PM on May 11 (a stacked store with Matsuya on the first floor and Matsunoya on the second); the second, at 7:30 PM on May 15 (a stacked store with Matsuya on the first floor and Shoken Chinese Dining on the second); and the third, at 2:14 PM on July 18 (a food-court-style in-store counter). This makes the current one the fourth overall.

Installment Posted Store Featured Gap Since Previous
Part 1 May 11, 6:18 PM Stacked store with Matsuya (1F) and Matsunoya (2F) (exterior)
Part 2 May 15, 7:30 PM Stacked store with Matsuya (1F) and Shoken Chinese Dining (2F) (night exterior) 4 days
Part 3 July 18, 2:14 PM Food-court-style in-store counter 64 days
This time August 5, 5:51 PM Street-level store co-located with Matsuya and Matsunoya (exterior) = Shin-Matsudo Store 18 days

The intervals between posts — 4 days, 64 days, and 18 days — vary widely, so this isn’t a series that runs on a fixed schedule. In all three previous rounds, no follow-up post revealing the answer ever turned up, and the account simply moved on to the next product announcement or taste-test post. This time’s Shin-Matsudo Store is the first to get a reveal. The attached photos are also different shots in all four rounds — none are reused from before.

Only the very first installment included the hint hashtag ‘#NotAComboStore’ in its caption; none of the three subsequent rounds carried this tag. The way hints are given also varies from round to round, and this time’s quiz caption included no clue words at all.

Clues Visible in the Quiz Photo

Unlike the previous round’s in-store counter shot or Part 2’s night exterior, this time’s photo was a daytime shot of a street-level store’s exterior.

Several elements visible in the photo offered clues for narrowing down the store.

  • A co-located store combining Beef Bowl chain Matsuya and tonkatsu chain Matsunoya, with the Matsuya logo and the characters for ‘Matsunoya’ displayed side by side on a black signboard. It’s a street-level store on a corner lot, with a relatively new wood-grain exterior finish.
  • The upper floors of the same building house a docomo Shop and a medical tenant advertising departments such as ‘surgery,’ placing the store on the ground floor of a mixed-use building shared by a restaurant, a phone shop, and a clinic.
  • A large poster reading ‘Beef Bowl, 460 yen’ is displayed in the window to the right of the entrance, while the glass to the left carries menu photos and notices for time-limited service deals.
  • The sidewalk is paved with blocks and lined with street trees, suggesting a location near a station or along a main road.

No signage directly identifying the store name, place name, or nearest station appeared in the photo, but the clues — ‘ground floor of a mixed-use building shared with a docomo Shop and a surgical clinic’ and ‘a corner-lot street-level store co-located with Matsunoya’ — line up precisely with the actual layout of the Shin-Matsudo Store in the M-site Building.

The Quiz Was a Standalone Post on the Same Day as a New Menu Preview

August 5, the day this quiz was posted, was also the day the official X account announced at 7:00 AM that the New Grilled Beef Bowl was nearing the end of its run and that a successor menu item was on the way. The quiz post, however, was inserted roughly 11 hours later as a standalone, offhand-style post with no link to any new product or campaign; its caption contained no wording connecting it to that morning’s new-menu preview. It amounted to a light, reader-participation piece of content — reveal included the next morning — slotted in between promotional posts.

Editor's Note

After leaving us hanging every single time, the fourth round finally got an answer. The reveal we'd been waiting for: Shin-Matsudo.
