At 5:51 PM on August 5, 2026, the official Matsuya X account posted a single exterior photo of a store with the question “Which Matsuya Is This? (╹◡╹)”. It is the familiar store-location guessing quiz, but the previous three rounds had all passed without the account ever revealing the answer. This time was different: on the morning of August 6, the account quoted its own quiz post and wrote “Shin-Matsudo, correct (´∀｀)”. In the fourth round since May, an answer was revealed for the first time. The answer was the Matsuya Shin-Matsudo Store in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture.

The Next Morning, the Official Account Reveals the Answer in a Quote Repost

The answer came about 13 hours after the quiz, at 7:16 AM on August 6. The official account quote-reposted its own quiz post and confirmed the store name with “Shin-Matsudo, correct,” responding to those who had guessed right. Since the first round in May, the “Which Matsuya Is This?” series had made a habit of posting the question and leaving the answer unrevealed, so this is the first time a reveal has followed a quiz.

The correct store, Matsuya Shin-Matsudo Store (2323), is a 24-hour store co-located with a Matsunoya, on the first floor of the M-site Building in Shin-Matsudo 4-chome, Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. The Shin-Matsudo area also has another store, Matsuya Shin-Matsudo Nishiguchi Store (0674), which is not co-located with a Matsunoya, so “Shin-Matsudo” alone does not pin down a single store. The Matsunoya co-located store in the photo, however, was the Shin-Matsudo Store on the first floor of the M-site Building.

The Previous Three Quizzes Were Left Unanswered; This Is the Fourth

This quiz follows the same “Which Matsuya Is This?” format as the first round at 6:18 PM on May 11 (a vertically stacked store with Matsuya on the first floor and Matsunoya on the second), the second round at 7:30 PM on May 15 (a vertically stacked store with Matsuya on the first floor and Shoken Chinese Dining on the second), and the third round at 2:14 PM on July 18 (an in-store counter in a food court), making this the fourth overall.

The intervals of 4, 64, and 18 days are uneven, so this is not a series that runs on a fixed schedule. After each of the previous three rounds, no post revealing the answer could be found before the account moved on to the next product announcement or eating-report post, and the Shin-Matsudo Store is the first to get an answer reveal. The attached photos were also different shots in all four rounds, not reused from earlier ones.

Only the first round had a hint hashtag, “#NotAComboStore,” in its text; the later three rounds did not carry this tag. The way hints are given varies from round to round, and this quiz’s text included no words that served as a clue.

Clues Visible in the Quiz Photo

Unlike the previous round’s in-store counter and the second round’s night exterior, this time the photo was a daytime exterior shot of a street-front store.

The elements captured in the photo offered several hints for narrowing down the store.

• A black signboard carries the Matsuya logo and the words “Matsunoya” side by side, marking a co-located store that combines Matsuya, known for beef bowls, and Matsunoya, known for tonkatsu. It is a street-front store on a corner lot, with a relatively new wood-grain exterior finish.
• The upper floors of the same building house a docomo Shop and medical tenants displaying departments such as “Surgery,” so this is the ground floor of a mixed-use building where dining, a mobile phone shop, and clinics share the premises.
• A large poster reading “Beef Bowl 460 yen” is on the window to the right of the entrance. The glass on the left is lined with menu photos and notices about time-based specials.
• The sidewalk is paved with blocks and lined with street trees, suggesting a location near a station or along a major road.

No signboard in the photo directly identified the store name, place name, or nearest station, but the clues of “the ground floor of a mixed-use building shared by a docomo Shop and a surgery-type clinic” and “a corner street-front store co-located with Matsunoya” line up exactly with the actual layout of the Shin-Matsudo Store in the M-site Building.

The Quiz Was a Standalone Post on the Same Day as a New Menu Teaser

August 5, the day of this quiz, was also the day the official X account announced at 7:00 AM that the “New Grilled Beef Bowl” would soon be discontinued and teased the arrival of its successor. The quiz post, however, was slipped in about 11 hours later as a standalone, light-hearted post with no links to new products or campaigns, and the post text contains no wording that ties it to the morning’s new menu teaser. It looks like a light, reader-participation piece of content running between promotions, all the way through to the next morning’s reveal.
