Matsuya's 'Mini Cold Udon' Sees Participating Stores Drop from 634 to 632 on Launch Day
This article has a newer version
Matsuya’s store-limited menu item “Mini Cold Udon” has dropped two participating stores on its very first day of sale, which began at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. On Matsuya’s official store-limited page, the number of participating stores changed from the previous 634 to 632, with Matsuya Hibarigaoka Store (0084) and Matsuya Ueno Store (0224) in Tokyo no longer on the list. Both stores themselves remain open as usual — this is not a closure or suspension of business.
Two Tokyo Stores Dropped, Both Open as Usual
The two stores that dropped off are Matsuya Hibarigaoka Store in Nishitokyo City and Matsuya Ueno Store in Taito Ward, both in Tokyo. Their addresses are 3-3-14 Hibarigaoka-Kita, Nishitokyo City for the former, and Ishii Building 1F/2F, 4-9-5 Ueno, Taito Ward for the latter. Both are listed on Matsuya’s official site as regular 24-hour stores, with no indication of closure or suspended operations. This change simply means the two stores are no longer among the “Mini Cold Udon” participants — the stores themselves have not shut down.
Matsuya’s official site gives no reason for the change, so the cause remains unclear. It’s worth noting, however, that these two stores haven’t dropped out of Matsuya’s store-limited offerings entirely: Hibarigaoka Store remains listed as a participant for the “MATSUYA Deli” prepared foods lineup, and Ueno Store remains listed for “Mirai no Lemon Sour,” each continuing under its own separate store-limited category.
Nearby Matsuya locations continue to offer “Mini Cold Udon.” Within Nishitokyo City, Higashi-Fushimi Store, Hoya Store, and Tanashi Ekimae Store remain participants, while within Taito Ward, Uguisudani Store, Iriya Store, Minowa Store, Ueno Asakusaguchi Store, and Asakusa Kokusai-dori Store all remain on the list.
“Mini Cold Udon” Priced at 290 Yen Only, Sold from 3 p.m. to 11 a.m. the Next Day
“Mini Cold Udon” is a store-limited menu item that launched at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, priced at 290 yen only. The promotional visual shows thick udon noodles served in a bowl with a black exterior and red interior, topped with finely chopped scallion and grated ginger, with clear ice cubes sitting in the broth. The background features a light-blue backdrop decorated with a seigaiha wave pattern and blue maple leaves for a cool summer feel — true to the tagline “A perfectly sized bowl you can slurp right down!”, this is a smaller-portioned bowl living up to its “Mini” name.
It’s offered “for dine-in only (no takeout).” The announced sale hours are “3 p.m. to 11 a.m. the following day,” a window that excludes the midday peak period (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.). It’s unusual for a cold udon dish to appear in Matsuya’s store-limited lineup, which is centered on beef bowls, suggesting it’s positioned as a light bite or a dish to close out a meal.

Store Count Shifted Within Days of Listing
The announcement for “Mini Cold Udon” first appeared on Matsuya’s official store-limited page on July 30, when the initial count stood at 634 stores. On July 31, Matsuya’s official X account also gave advance notice, stating “from 10 a.m. on August 4, at select stores,” and at both points the item was described as available “at select stores” for a “limited sale period.” On August 4, the launch day, the count narrowed further by two stores to 632. This shift in participating stores within just a few days of the initial listing shows that the lineup for a store-limited menu item can keep shifting in fine detail even after launch.
Editor's Note
A newly launched menu item quietly dropping two stores on day one is a subtle move. Before heading out, it's worth checking whether your local Matsuya still serves this bowl.
