Matsuya's Dine-in-Only "Mini Cold Udon" Discontinued at All 632 Stores
Matsuya’s dine-in-only “Mini Cold Udon,” sold at select stores this summer, has been discontinued at all the stores that carried it as of August 24, 2026. Available for about three weeks after its August 4 launch, the dish was a dine-in-only item priced at 290 yen as a standalone order. While the launch was announced on the official X account, no announcement has been found regarding the discontinuation.
A Slurpable Bowl for 290 Yen, Dine-In Only
Mini Cold Udon launched at 10 a.m. on August 4, 2026, as a dine-in-only item at select stores nationwide. Priced at 290 yen as a standalone order, it was not available for takeout. Serving hours were also limited, running from 3 p.m. to 11 a.m. the following day, deliberately excluding the lunchtime peak. It’s also a rare case of a noodle dish among Matsuya’s store-limited offerings.
The announcement image shows thin udon noodles served in a bowl with a red interior and black exterior, topped with finely chopped scallion and grated ginger, alongside clear ice cubes. The copy read, “A perfectly sized bowl you can slurp right down!”, paired with a seigaiha wave pattern background, blue maple leaf, and ice illustrations for a cool, summery look. The image carried a “Dine-in only (no takeout)” notice, with “Available 3 p.m. to 11 a.m. the following day” spelled out at the bottom.
About Three Weeks from Launch to Discontinuation
The launch was announced in advance on the official X account on July 31. The post read, “Starting at 10 a.m. on August 4, we will launch Mini Cold Udon at select stores,” and also noted the limited serving hours.
On the first day of sale, 634 stores carried the item. Shortly after, two stores — Matsuya Hibarigaoka Store (0084) and Matsuya Ueno Store (0224) — dropped off the list, bringing the total to 632. The count then held steady at 632 stores until listings ended at all locations around midday on August 24.
Store-limited menu items often rotate within just a few weeks, so Mini Cold Udon’s roughly three-week run puts it on the longer end. While its launch was announced on the official X account, no announcement of its discontinuation has been found on either official X or the news page.
Available at 632 Stores Across 35 Prefectures
Mini Cold Udon was available at 632 stores across 35 prefectures, roughly half of all Matsuya locations nationwide. Tokyo stood out by far, followed by the prefectures below in order.
| Prefecture | Number of Stores |
|---|---|
| Tokyo | 248 |
| Kanagawa Prefecture | 83 |
| Osaka Prefecture | 66 |
| Saitama Prefecture | 54 |
| Chiba Prefecture | 32 |
| Hyogo Prefecture | 28 |
| Aichi Prefecture | 24 |
| Fukuoka Prefecture | 11 |
| Ibaraki Prefecture | 9 |
Meanwhile, 11 prefectures — Okinawa, Oita, Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Kumamoto, Akita, Aomori, Kochi, Nagasaki, Saga, and Shimane — had operating stores but no availability at all. That means southern Kyushu, Okinawa, northern Tohoku, and parts of Shikoku were excluded from the outset.
Editor's Note
It appeared quietly for the summer, then vanished just as quietly. Maybe it was one of those dishes you should've tried while you had the chance.
