Matsuya Replaces Akita-limited 'Iburigakko Beef Bowl' Promotional Image, Dropping Opening Commemoration Framing for Prefecture-limited Version

MenuStore-limited

On the page introducing Matsuya’s store-limited menu items, the promotional image for the Akita Prefecture-limited ‘Iburigakko Beef Bowl’ (650 yen, served with specially made miso soup) has been replaced with a new version. The product name, price, and target stores (4 locations within Akita Prefecture) remain unchanged; what changed is the wording in the headline at the top of the promotional image. The previous version was tied to the October 28, 2025 opening of the Akita Hiromo store, but the new version drops the opening-commemoration wording in favor of a standard announcement as an ongoing ‘Akita Prefecture-limited menu.’

Changes to the Promotional Image

Comparing the old and new promotional images, most of the visuals are shared. Unchanged between the two versions are: the photo of two Namahage in straw costumes (a red oni and a blue oni), the bowl of ‘Iburigakko Beef Bowl’ at the center topped with beef, onion, a soft-boiled egg, and chopped green onion, the photo of the castle (Yokote Castle) at the bottom right, the illustration of a Shiba Inu at the top right, the tagline ‘A collaboration only possible here, between Matsuya and Akita,’ the text at the bottom left reading ‘Akita Prefecture-limited Iburigakko Beef Bowl, served with specially made miso soup, 650 yen,’ and the notes ‘Miso soup is not included with takeout’ and ‘Photo is for illustrative purposes.’

The differences are concentrated in the headline area at the top of the image.

Section Old Image New Image
Top headline “First Store in Akita City” / “Sales Start Tuesday, October 28, 10:00 AM” “Akita Prefecture-limited Menu”
Vertical banner “Akita Hiromo Store Opening Commemoration” (not present)

The old image took the form of a store-opening announcement, touting “First Store in Akita City” and “Opening Commemoration” to coincide with the opening of the Akita Hiromo store (October 28, 2025). The new image drops that opening-commemoration context, and can be read as shifting the role to an ongoing, standing announcement of the Akita Prefecture-limited menu itself.

Product Overview

The ‘Iburigakko Beef Bowl’ is an Akita Prefecture-limited menu item that pairs Matsuya’s Beef Bowl with iburigakko, a smoked pickle that is an Akita specialty. It is priced at 650 yen and comes with specially made miso soup (miso soup is not included with takeout). The bowl is topped with beef, onion, and a soft-boiled egg, garnished with chopped green onion, and the promotional image positions it as “a collaboration between Matsuya and Akita.”

Target Stores (4 Locations in Akita Prefecture)

Sales are limited to 4 stores within Akita Prefecture.

  • Matsuya Yokote (2262)
  • Matsuya Akita Hiromo (2218)
  • Matsuya Hanawa SA (Up line) (1989)
  • Matsuya Hanawa SA (Down line) (2019)

In addition to the regular Yokote and Akita Hiromo stores, the lineup covers both the up-line and down-line stores at Hanawa SA, a service area location along the expressway. The target stores are unchanged before and after the promotional image replacement.

Background as a Local Specialty Menu

The Iburigakko Beef Bowl has been featured on Matsuya’s official X account before. On May 4, 2026, the official X account introduced someone eating it at the Yokote store, drawing attention as a local specialty menu item worth traveling to Akita for. Coming a little over half a year after the Akita Hiromo opening-commemoration announcement, this replacement — which drops the opening-commemoration framing in favor of an announcement as a prefecture-limited menu — can be read as a sign that the Iburigakko Beef Bowl has taken root as a staple local menu item in Akita.

Editor's Note

With the opening-commemoration title dropped, the Iburigakko Beef Bowl now wears the face of an Akita regular menu item too. Namahage stays on duty.
