Just after 6 p.m. on August 29, Matsuya’s official X account posted about taking on the challenge of finishing a Bakumori Size Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl together with their younger sister. August 29 falls on the monthly recurring “Meat Day,” and this year it also happens to be “Yakiniku Day.” The post shows the two sisters each taking on one of the two oversized bowls sold only on this day.

The full text of the post reads as follows.

I’m taking on the Bakumori Size Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Salt-based Green Onion Bowl together with my younger sister( ¯꒳¯ ) The rice is Extra-large Serving, and the meat is twice the Large Serving amount…!

Can we both finish it all…!?

Please watch this battle of sisterly pride through to the end💪

‘Bakumori Size’ Available Today Only, App Orders Only

This Bakumori Size was announced in advance in an official notice published on August 25. In the notice, the official name is ‘W Size,’ covering two items: the Large Serving Kimchi Kalbi Bowl (1,200 yen) and the Large Serving Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl (1,140 yen). Both feature Extra-large Serving rice and twice the Large Serving amount of meat.

The attached image shows two white bowls side by side. On the left is the Kimchi Kalbi Bowl topped with kimchi and chopped nori, and on the right is the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl piled with plenty of chopped green onion and garnish. Both bowls are stacked with ingredients right up to the rim.

Sales run for one day only, from 0:00 to 23:59 on August 29, 2026. Orders can only be placed through the Matsuben Net and Matsuya Mobile Order apps, and cannot be made at ticket vending machines or in-store tablets. The offer covers Matsuya locations nationwide, excluding the Haneda Innovation City Store, Narita Airport Terminal 3 Store, and highway PA stores.

‘Bakumori Size,’ as used in the post text and the previous day’s advance notice, is an alternate way of phrasing the official notice’s name, ‘W Size’; the posting account has consistently used this term since the day before.

An image capturing the Kimchi Kalbi Bowl from the side shows the grilled pork piled well above the height of the bowl itself, topped with kimchi and chopped nori. It’s a shot that conveys the sheer volume of Extra-large Serving rice layered with twice the Large Serving amount of meat.

A Bowl Promotion Added to ‘Meat Day’ Just for This Month

Matsuya has continued to hold promotions tied to ‘Meat Day’ on the 29th of every month. The usual format offers 200 yen off Large Serving Set Meals exclusively through the Matsuya App. This August, in addition to that, a new element has been added: two one-day-only Bakumori Size bowls.

The Lead-up From the Previous Day and the Post’s Wording

This eating challenge is the final stage of a sequence built up across multiple posts. In a post at 10 p.m. the previous day, the 28th, the account announced: ‘We’re selling Bakumori Size Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Salt-based Green Onion Bowl!! The rice is Extra-large Serving, and the meat is twice the Large Serving amount. Challengers wanted!’ On the day itself, the 29th, a follow-up post at midday added, ‘There are also two bowls available today only( ¯꒳¯ ) Maybe I’ll give it a try myself,’ which led into the actual challenge in the evening’s main post. Keywords such as ‘Bakumori Size,’ ‘Extra-large Serving rice and twice the Large Serving amount of meat,’ and ‘challenge’ carry over directly from the previous day’s advance notice.

The closing line adds a flexed-bicep emoji💪 alongside the emoticon( ¯꒳¯ ). The official X account’s usual posts center on emoticons like(╹◡╹)and( ¯꒳¯ ), so using a flexed-bicep emoji is unusual.

The History of the Two Bowls

The Kimchi Kalbi Bowl (690 yen) debuted at the end of March 2026 and has remained on the regular menu at the same price for about five months since. Its salt-based green onion counterpart has changed names over time, with the current version being the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl (630 yen). This item has been featured repeatedly on the official X account, and this Bakumori Size can be described as a one-day-only maximum-volume version of these two mainstay items.
