Matsuya Official Takes On Finishing the "Bakumori Size" Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Salt-based Green Onion Bowl with Younger Sister

On the evening of August 29, around 6 p.m., Matsuya’s official X account posted a challenge: finishing the “Bakumori Size” Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl together with the younger sister. August 29 is the monthly “Meat Day” and also “Yakiniku Day.” The post shows the two sisters each taking on one of the two oversized bowls sold only on this day.

The text of the post reads as follows.

We’re taking on the Bakumori Size Kimchi Kalbi Bowl and Salt-based Green Onion Bowl together with my younger sister ( ¯꒳¯ ) Extra-large serving of rice, and double the meat of a large serving…!

Can both of us really finish them…!?

“Bakumori Size” Is Today Only and App Orders Only

This Bakumori Size was announced in advance in an official notice published on August 25. The notice’s official name is “W Size,” and it covers two items: the “Kimchi Kalbi Bowl W” (1,200 yen) and the “Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl W” (1,140 yen). Both consist of an extra-large serving of rice with double the meat of a large serving.

The attached image shows two white bowls side by side. On the left is the Kimchi Kalbi Bowl topped with kimchi and shredded nori; on the right is the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl topped with plenty of chopped green onion and condiments. In both, the ingredients are piled right up to the brim.

It is sold for one day only, from 0:00 to 23:59 on August 29, 2026. Orders are accepted only through the app, via Matsuben Net and Matsuya Mobile Order, and cannot be placed at ticket vending machines or in-store tablets. It is available at Matsuya stores nationwide, except for the Haneda Innovation City store, the Narita Airport Terminal 3 store, and expressway PA stores.

“Bakumori Size,” used in the post and in the previous day’s announcement, is a more colloquial name for the notice’s official “W Size,” and the posts have used this name consistently since the day before.

In a side-angle image of the Kimchi Kalbi Bowl, the grilled pork is piled far above the height of the bowl, with kimchi and shredded nori on top. It conveys the sheer volume of an extra-large serving of rice topped with double the meat of a large serving.

A Bowl Campaign Added Just This Month to the “Meat Day” Event

Matsuya has continued to hold events tied to “Meat Day” on the 29th of every month. The usual format is a 200 yen discount on Large Serving Set Meals, exclusive to the Matsuya App. This August, a new element has been added: two Bakumori Size bowls available for one day only.

The Flow from the Previous Day and the Wording of the Post

This eating challenge is the final step in a series of posts. In a post at 10 p.m. on the 28th, the previous day, the account announced: “We’re selling Bakumori Size Kimchi Kalbi Bowls and Salt-based Green Onion Bowls!! Extra-large serving of rice, and double the meat of a large serving. Challengers wanted!” On the afternoon of the 29th, a follow-up post said, “There are also two bowls available today only ( ¯꒳¯ ) Maybe I’ll try the challenge myself,” and the main post in the evening carried through to the actual challenge. The keywords “Bakumori Size,” “extra-large serving of rice, double the meat of a large serving,” and “challenge” are carried over directly from the previous day’s announcement.

The post closes with the emoticon ( ¯꒳¯ ) plus a flexed-biceps emoji 💪. The official X account usually relies on emoticons such as (╹◡╹) and ( ¯꒳¯ ), so the use of a flexed-biceps emoji is rare.

The Two Bowls So Far

The Kimchi Kalbi Bowl (690 yen) appeared at the end of March 2026 and has stayed a staple for about five months without a price change. Its counterpart, the green onion salt-style bowl, has had its name swapped over time, and the current one is the Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl (630 yen). The Salt-based Green Onion Pork Loin Bowl is an item the official X account has featured repeatedly, and this Bakumori Size takes these two staples to their maximum volume for a single day.
