Matsuya Lifts Suspension at All 10 Okinawa Stores Following August 7 Closure

The suspension notices displayed since August 7 at all 10 Matsuya stores in Okinawa Prefecture were lifted on August 8, with each store’s listing reverting to normal operating status. Okinawa Prefecture currently has 10 Matsuya stores in total, and this marked a case in which every store in the prefecture halted operations simultaneously, then resumed together.

All 10 Prefecture Stores Affected, From Suspension Back to Normal Operations

As of August 7, each store’s page on the official website carried a note reading, “Closed August 7. Reopening August 8, weather permitting,” listing the closure date as August 7 and the reopening date as August 8. By August 8, this note had disappeared from all 10 stores, along with the closure and reopening date fields, and the listings had reverted to indicating normal operations.

The notice only stated “weather permitting,” and the individual store pages gave no direct reason for the suspension. It appears that Matsuya stores across Okinawa Prefecture coordinated the timing together, waiting for the weather to clear before resuming operations.

Centered on Naha and Uruma, Spread Across the Prefecture’s Major Cities

The following 10 stores resumed operations together this time. Three stores are concentrated in Naha City, the prefectural capital, two are in Uruma City, and the remaining five are spread one each across municipalities from Chatan Town to Okinawa City.

• Okinawa City: Okinawa Chibana Store (2520)

Among these, Ginowan Store opened just recently, on May 22, and is the newest store, having completed the prefecture’s network as the 10th Matsuya location in Okinawa. Nine of the 10 stores are co-located with Matsunoya, while only Naha Shintoshin Store is co-located with My Curry Shokudo.

In June, Four Stores for Half a Day; This Time, All 10 Stores Spanned a Full Day

Matsuya stores in Okinawa had posted a similar temporary suspension notice previously, from June 1 to 2. At that time, however, only four stores were affected — Uruma Akamichi Store, Tomigusuku Store, Naha Shintoshin Store, and Naha Oroku Store — and the notice explicitly stated the reason for the closure: “Temporarily Closed Due to Typhoon Impact.” That notice was lifted by the morning of the following day, June 2.

This time, the scope expanded to all 10 stores in the prefecture, the notice stated only “weather permitting” without specifying a reason, and the notice posted on August 7 wasn’t lifted until the following day, August 8, spanning roughly a full day. Even though both were temporary suspensions at Matsuya’s Okinawa stores, this instance exceeded June’s in both the number of stores affected and the duration of the closure.
