The store had announced in June that it would be “Permanently Closed as of 3:00 PM on June 15, 2026,” and its disappearance from the store locator now confirms that closure.

Vanished from the Locator About a Month After the Scheduled Closure Date

The Kozaiga Store’s closure first came to light on June 11, 2026, when the notice “3:00 PM, June 15, 2026, Permanently Closed” was added to the store name and scheduled closing date fields. The store actually disappeared from the store locator’s listings on July 14 — about a month (29 days) after that scheduled closing date.

At Matsuya, there are cases where a certain interval passes between a store posting a scheduled closing date and its actual disappearance from the store locator. Matsuya Kanshoji Store (1881) in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, likewise disappeared from the store locator on June 29 — about a month (31 days) after its scheduled closing date of 3:00 PM, May 29, 2026 — an interval nearly identical to the Kozaiga Store’s 29 days.

In the months leading up to the closure notice, from April to June, the Kozaiga Store’s business hours field was repeatedly updated, with several-day suspensions of operation posted again and again (April 17–18, April 22–24, April 29, and others). This suggests that irregular operations continued right up until the closure notice appeared.

Matsuya Locations in Wakayama Prefecture Down to 6, Wakayama City Down to 3

With the Kozaiga Store’s closure, the number of Matsuya locations in Wakayama Prefecture falls from 7 to 6, and within Wakayama City from 4 to 3. The three stores remaining in operation within Wakayama City are Matsuya Kinokawa Ohashi Store (0327), Wakayama Mukai Store (1724), and Wakayama Kano Store (1984).

The closest existing store to the former Kozaiga Store site is Kinokawa Ohashi Store, about 4.5 kilometers away as the crow flies, followed by Wakayama Kano Store at about 4.8 kilometers. Both are several kilometers away, meaning the nearest store has become somewhat more distant for people who used to frequent the Kozaiga Store area.

The six remaining stores in Wakayama Prefecture consist of the three above in Wakayama City, plus Kainan Store (1757), Iwade Store (0710), and Arida Inter Store (2074).
