On August 21, Matsuya announced on its official X account that the “Pork & Kimchi Set Meal” will go on sale at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25. The dish combines Matsuya’s proprietary Mt. Fuji Kimchi and pork tossed in Matsuya’s special sauce. The post restates on X what had already been announced the previous day, August 20, in a notice on the official website.

The Post Quotes and Summarizes the Official Announcement

The full text of the X post is as follows (original wording, including emoji):

“Pork & Kimchi Set Meal” on sale from 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 25🎉

A stamina-packed dish featuring our proprietary Mt. Fuji Kimchi and pork tossed in Matsuya’s special sauce!

Don’t miss this chance to try it✨

The official website notice published the day before, on August 20, titled “Our Signature Summer Kimchi Dish Returns This Year: ‘Pork & Kimchi Set Meal’ Now on Sale,” reads in part: “Combining our proprietary Mt. Fuji Kimchi with fragrantly grilled pork… tossed in Matsuya’s special sauce,” and “Please enjoy this stamina-packed dish, especially welcome in the hot season.” The post’s line, “A stamina-packed dish featuring our proprietary Mt. Fuji Kimchi and pork tossed in Matsuya’s special sauce!” pulls the phrases “proprietary,” “Mt. Fuji Kimchi,” “tossed in Matsuya’s special sauce,” and “stamina-packed” from that passage and condenses them into a single sentence. The closing line, “Don’t miss this chance to try it,” echoes the same wording used in the official notice.

New menu announcements have consistently followed the format of opening with “‘[Item Name]’ on sale from 10:00 a.m., [Date] ([Day of Week])🎉,” inserting a one-sentence description, and closing with “Don’t miss this chance to try it.” This post follows the same pattern. Both the 🎉 marking the launch and the ✨ at the end are emoji that have appeared in past new-menu announcements as well.

Set Meal at 890 Yen, Five Variations Including Double and Standalone Options

The image attached to the post carries the copy “Get Energized with Matsuya’s Pork & Kimchi,” showing pork and kimchi piled on a white plate together with onion, garlic sprouts, and white sesame seeds, all captured with steam rising. In the upper right, a bite-sized portion lifted with chopsticks is pictured, and beside the plate the text reads “Comes with Rice, Fresh Vegetable Salad, and Miso Soup” and “890 yen.”

According to the previous day’s notice, the prices are as follows (all tax included):

Pork & Kimchi Set Meal 890 yen
Double Pork & Kimchi Set Meal 1,380 yen
Pork & Kimchi Bowl 790 yen
Double Pork & Kimchi Bowl 1,280 yen

According to the notice, the dish can be enjoyed as a set meal, or served over rice in a bowl style. It launches at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, at locations nationwide except for select stores. The notice is titled “Our Signature Summer Kimchi Dish Returns This Year,” positioning it as one of Matsuya’s summer menu offerings.

The Star Ingredient: Proprietary Mt. Fuji Kimchi

The star ingredient, Matsuya’s proprietary “Mt. Fuji Kimchi,” has been used across multiple menu items, including the Kimchi Beef Bowl and the Kimchi and Raw Egg Set, and is also offered as a standalone topping. On August 9, the official X account revealed that this kimchi is manufactured in-house at the company’s Mt. Fuji factory. It also appeared as one of the choosable side dishes with the “Twice-cooked Pork” dish launched on July 14. The Pork & Kimchi Set Meal puts this Mt. Fuji Kimchi front and center.

Editor's Note

Refueling on stamina with kimchi and pork in the lingering summer heat makes perfect sense. Now the real dilemma: go big with the double serving, or keep it light with the standalone option?
