Matsuya's 'Pork & Kimchi Set Meal' Nutrition Values Revised Upward Two Weeks After Launch — Regular Serving Up from 815 to 839 kcal

Matsuya will launch the “Pork & Kimchi Set Meal,” made with house-made Mt. Fuji Kimchi and teppan-grilled pork, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Matsuya locations nationwide except at some stores. The company announced the launch in an official notice dated August 20. The set meal is priced at 890 yen, offered across five price tiers including a bowl-style option and a Double serving. Matsuya describes it as a summer staple, tossed in the chain’s special sauce made with garlic sprouts and onion and grilled to a fragrant finish on the teppan.

Two Styles, Set Meal or Bowl, Across Five Price Tiers

The notice lists five variations: the base “Pork & Kimchi Set Meal” (890 yen), which comes with rice, a fresh vegetable salad, and miso soup; the “Double Pork & Kimchi Set Meal” (1,380 yen), with a larger portion of meat; the bowl-style “Pork & Kimchi” (790 yen), served over rice, and its “Double Pork & Kimchi Bowl” (1,280 yen); and the side-dish-only “Pork & Kimchi Only” (690 yen). The 100-yen gap between the 790-yen bowl and the 690-yen side-only version corresponds to the cost of the rice.

The product photo shows the set meal style, with a fresh vegetable salad and miso soup, on the left, and the bowl style, with only miso soup, on the right. Both are topped with a deep-red kimchi stir-fry garnished with white sesame seeds and garlic sprouts. Matsuya promotes both ways of eating it: “Enjoy it as a set meal on its own, or served over rice bowl-style.”

Past Launch Notices Priced It at 590 Yen; This Time It’s 890 Yen

Matsuya describes this year’s menu as “a summer staple” and says it has “returned again this year.” Tracing past launch notices shows how the price of the “Pork & Kimchi Set Meal” has changed over time.

Launch Notice Pork & Kimchi Set Meal Double Set Meal
2013 580 yen 880 yen
2014–2015 590 yen 890 yen
2026 890 yen 1,380 yen

The most recent official Matsuya notices announcing the launch and price of the “Pork & Kimchi Set Meal” were in 2014 and 2015 (590 yen each time), making this year’s 890 yen a 300-yen increase (about 50.8%) from back then. The Double Set Meal has risen 490 yen (about 55.1%) from 890 yen in 2015, to 1,380 yen.

890 Yen Matches the Current Yakiniku Set Meal

All five price points in this lineup land in the same range as existing staple menu items.

This Menu Price Position Among Current Menu Items
Pork & Kimchi Set Meal 890 yen Same price as the Yakiniku Boneless Short Rib Set Meal and Yakiniku Beef Set Meal — 40 yen more than the Stir-fried Pork with Ginger Soy Sauce Set Meal (850 yen) and 90 yen less than the Chicken Nanban Set Meal (980 yen)
Double Pork & Kimchi Set Meal 1,380 yen Same price as the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Cheese Set Meal and Cheese Umatoma Hamburg Steak Set Meal
Pork & Kimchi (Bowl) 790 yen Between the Beef Bibim Bowl / Kimchi Kalbi Bowl (690 yen) and the Matsuya Original Sauce Roast Beef (880 yen)
Double Pork & Kimchi Bowl 1,280 yen Same price as the Hamburg Steak with Brown Sauce and Sunny-side Up Set Meal
Pork & Kimchi Only 690 yen Same price as the Beef Bibim Bowl and Kimchi Kalbi Bowl

The 890-yen set meal sits alongside the yakiniku-style set meals, while the Double lands at the same 1,380 yen as the cheese-topped hamburg steak set meals — placing this menu squarely in the mid-tier set meal range within Matsuya’s pricing structure.

Made with House-made “Mt. Fuji Kimchi”

The notice specifies that the kimchi used is “house-made Mt. Fuji Kimchi.” Matsuya manufactures this kimchi in-house, and on August 9 the official X account revealed that it is produced at a factory near Mt. Fuji. Mt. Fuji Kimchi is also offered as one of the side dish options with the “Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal,” launched nationwide on July 14, making this its second appearance at Matsuya this summer, following the twice-cooked pork dish. The notice puts the flavor of the kimchi itself front and center, describing it as “spicy with just the right amount of tanginess to whet the appetite.”

Launching 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 25, with a 70-Yen-Off Coupon on the Official App

The launch begins at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. It will be available at Matsuya locations nationwide except at some stores, and takeout is also supported (for takeout orders, miso soup is charged separately). The shareholder benefit voucher can be used on all five menu items. The schedule — announced Thursday, August 20, for launch the following Tuesday — follows Matsuya’s standard cycle for new product rollouts.

In addition, the official Matsuya Foods app will distribute a coupon for 70 yen off eligible menu items, running from 10:00 a.m. on August 25 — the same time as the launch — through 10:00 a.m. on September 1. The hero image carries the tagline “Get your energy back with Matsuya’s Pork & Kimchi,” positioning the dish as a stamina-packed summer menu item.

Editor's Note

Spicy kimchi and teppan-grilled pork are almost unfair for a stomach worn down by summer heat. This is the kind of menu where you agonize every time over set meal or bowl, regular or Double.
