Matsuya Official X Reveals In-House Kimchi Production at Mt. Fuji Factory
At 6:35 PM on August 9, 2026, Matsuya’s official X account (@matsuya_foods) posted that its kimchi is “made in-house at our Mt. Fuji factory.” The post suggested enjoying it as-is as a snack with a drink, or adding it to the currently available Hiyajiru for a flavor twist. Rather than announcing a new product, it was a trivia-flavored post shining a light on the origin of the kimchi itself.
The Name Behind “Mt. Fuji Kimchi”
Among Matsuya’s side dishes is one aptly named Mt. Fuji Kimchi (100 yen). The origin described in this post — “made in-house at our Mt. Fuji factory” — lines up neatly with that product name. Mt. Fuji Kimchi is also one of the side dish choices for the Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal (880 yen), which launched nationwide on July 14, and it has repeatedly appeared as a spicy side dish option.
The photo accompanying the post shows a heaping mound of napa cabbage kimchi on a small white plate. The contrast between the fresh green leaves, the white core, and the red brine coating it all is clearly visible, and the kimchi looks well-soaked in its juices.
Part of an Ongoing Series of Ingredient Posts Tied to Hiyajiru
This kimchi post isn’t a one-off; it’s part of an ongoing series of ingredient posts centered on Hiyajiru. On August 8, Matsuya posted about tofu, noting that “Matsuya’s tofu is made with Hokkaido-Grown Soybeans,” and at 12:40 PM on August 9 it followed up with “Matsuya’s Hiyajiru pairs perfectly with rice.” This evening’s kimchi post is the third in that string.
The Hiyajiru at the center of these posts refers to the one in the Hiyajiru Set, which was announced in an official notice dated July 30 and went on sale at 10 AM on August 4. Hiyajiru Only (390 yen) and the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set (730 yen) are also currently available, and the post suggests adding kimchi to this Hiyajiru for a flavor twist.
Kimchi and Hiyajiru: Already an Official Combo
The “kimchi and Hiyajiru” pairing suggested in the post is actually already an option Matsuya offers. The July 30 notice announcing the Hiyajiru Set also introduced a Kimchi Beef Bowl Hiyajiru Set (30 yen off the regular price) as one of the standard Beef Bowl set combinations. Whether as a snack or as a partner for a flavor twist, Matsuya’s kimchi and Hiyajiru have already been officially paired together.
Seven Kimchi Menu Items Currently Available
According to Matsuya’s official website, seven kimchi menu items are currently available. From Beef Bowls to lunch sets, a collaboration item, and a limited-time set meal, kimchi appears across a wide range of the menu.
| Menu Item | Price |
|---|---|
| Kimchi Beef Bowl | 560 yen |
| Mt. Fuji Kimchi (side dish) | 100 yen |
| Kimchi & Raw Egg Set | 170 yen |
| Kimchi & Soft-boiled Egg Set | 170 yen |
| Kimchi Beef Bowl Lunch Set | 630 yen |
| ONE PIECE Kimchi Beef Bowl Set | 760 yen |
| Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal (Kimchi Side Dish) | 880 yen |
In the past, Mayo Kimchi Beef Bowl (610 yen) was discontinued on April 7. The Kimchi Beef Bowl Lunch Set also switched from its former price of 680 yen to the current 630 yen on April 7, an effective 50 yen price cut. As for the limited-time Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal, a note dated August 5 states it is “To Be Discontinued Successively,” suggesting the window to enjoy it alongside the kimchi side dish is entering its final stretch.
Editor's Note
Enjoy it as a snack with a drink, or as a refreshing twist for Hiyajiru? The same kimchi still has plenty of ways to be enjoyed.
