For three regular-serving items in Matsuya’s new curry lineup, which went on sale at 10 a.m. on September 22, 2026 — ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice’, ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu’, and ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice’ — the nutrition values shown on the official site changed within the same day. Displayed calories dropped for all three, and the other nutrients now show different values from those at launch.

All three are built on the Indian-origin “palak paneer” (a curry combining spinach and cottage cheese) and are part of the lineup previewed in an official announcement dated September 17. A paneer-style curry combining spinach and cottage cheese is an unusual addition to Matsuya’s curry menu.

Nutrition values for the 3 items that changed from the launch display

The changes affect three regular (Regular Serving) items. Below, the values shown on the official menu page on the morning of September 22 are set beside the values that were rewritten later that day and are shown now.

Calories fell for all three; only the Karegyu’s protein rose

The changes share some traits but also vary. Calories fell for all three, with the largest drop being 75kcal for the regular curry. Protein fell for the curry and the chicken curry, but for the Karegyu alone it rose 5.4g, from 25.6g to 31.0g — the only increase among the three. Carbohydrates moved the opposite way as well: up for the curry and chicken curry, down for the Karegyu.

On the other hand, the nutrition values for the Only size (660 yen, 306kcal) and for the ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice’ (1,170 yen), which was removed from the menu page on release day, have not changed from the launch display. The changed values are limited to the three regular-serving items. Matsuya has not explained why the launch figures and the current figures differ.

The ‘Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice’ that was not in the announcement was briefly listed on release day

The official announcement dated September 17 gave prices for three items: ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice’ (Only 660 yen, Regular 780 yen), ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu’ (1,050 yen), and ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice’ (960 yen). But on release day the menu page also briefly listed the ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice’ (1,170 yen).

This loin cutlet curry was removed from the menu page during the morning of the 22nd and has not been relisted. Matsuya has given no explanation of how it came to be listed or why it was withdrawn.

Placing these three items within the current curry category (by Regular price) shows where they sit.

Menu item Regular price
Founding Beef Curry and Rice 680 yen
Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice 780 yen
Cheese Founding Beef Curry and Rice 880 yen
Hamburg Steak Founding Beef Curry and Rice 890 yen
Founding Beef Karegyu 950 yen
Spinach and Cottage Cheese Chicken Curry and Rice 960 yen
Spinach and Cottage Cheese Karegyu 1,050 yen
Founding Beef Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice 1,070 yen

The 780 yen Regular curry sits 100 yen above the cheapest Founding Beef Curry and Rice (680 yen) and 100 yen below the Cheese Founding Beef Curry and Rice (880 yen), in the price band just below the middle. The Chicken Curry and Rice (960 yen) edges in just 10 yen above the beef-containing Founding Beef Karegyu (950 yen), and the Karegyu (1,050 yen) comes within 20 yen of the priciest item, the Founding Beef Loin Cutlet Curry and Rice (1,070 yen).

In addition, a Matsuya official app-only coupon for up to 100 yen off the ‘Spinach and Cottage Cheese Curry and Rice’ is being distributed from 10 a.m. on September 22 to 10 a.m. on September 29. Because the cap is 100 yen, both the Regular at 780 yen and the Only at 660 yen reach the full discount, bringing the effective price to 680 yen for the Regular and 560 yen for the Only. The Regular’s 680 yen matches the regular price of the category’s cheapest item, the Founding Beef Curry and Rice (680 yen). The coupon applies to orders placed through the official Matsuya app and does not apply to orders at ticket vending machines.

Editor's Note

Nutrition numbers shifting from day one — the debut of palak paneer is causing a quiet stir. If you watch your calories, check the latest figures.
