Matsuya Kawaguchi Ekimae Store Resumes Operations Today After 8-Day Temporary Closure

Matsuya’s Sendagi Store and Takamatsu Hyogomachi Store resumed operations at 3:00 PM on October 5, following a temporary closure. Both stores had closed at 3:00 PM on September 25, making the closure period exactly 10 days. On the same day, October 5, a new notice was also added: Kawaguchi Ekimae Store in Saitama Prefecture will temporarily close at 3:00 PM on October 19 and reopen at 3:00 PM on October 27. The announcements for the two stores reopening today and the one store about to close coincided on the same day.

Two Stores in Tokyo and Kagawa with Matching Closure Schedules

Sendagi Store is one of seven Matsuya locations in Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo, and operates as a standalone store without a co-located brand. Within the same Bunkyo Ward, Hakusan Store and Hongo 3-chome Store co-locate with Matsunoya, while Myogadani Store co-locates with My Curry Shokudo, so the lineup is split depending on whether a co-located brand is present.

Takamatsu Hyogomachi Store is located in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture. There are three Matsuya stores within Takamatsu City — Takamatsu Kita Store, Takamatsu Hyogomachi Store, and Takamatsu Matsushima Store — of which Takamatsu Matsushima Store co-locates with Matsunoya, while Takamatsu Hyogomachi Store and Takamatsu Kita Store are standalone Matsuya locations. Matsuya has only 5 stores in all of Kagawa Prefecture, a limited presence in Shikoku compared to Tokyo’s 337 stores and Saitama Prefecture’s 103 stores.

Despite being located far apart in Tokyo and Kagawa, Sendagi Store and Takamatsu Hyogomachi Store had closure and reopening dates and times that matched exactly, both running from 3:00 PM on September 25 to 3:00 PM on October 5. The timing of the closures appears to have coincided by chance, and such matching dates have occasionally been seen before.

Kawaguchi Ekimae Store to Temporarily Close in Two Weeks

Meanwhile, a new temporary closure notice has been issued for Kawaguchi Ekimae Store. The store is scheduled to suspend operations at 3:00 PM on October 19 and reopen at 3:00 PM on October 27, a closure period of 8 days. Starting two weeks from today, it will enter the same temporary closure cycle as Sendagi Store and Takamatsu Hyogomachi Store.

Kawaguchi Ekimae Store is one of six Matsuya locations in Kawaguchi City, Saitama Prefecture, situated inside the “CuPo・La” commercial facility in front of JR Kawaguchi Station. This is also a standalone Matsuya location without a co-located brand.

Temporary Closures Continue Across Matsuya Locations

Temporary closures of Matsuya stores are occurring one after another across various regions. Past examples show that closure periods tend to run around one to two weeks, and the 10-day closure at Sendagi Store and Takamatsu Hyogomachi Store, as well as the 8-day closure at Kawaguchi Ekimae Store, both fall within this range. Recently, there was also a case of a store reopening after a long closure of about 45 days, but reopening within a few days to around two weeks is the more common pattern. None of the announcements state a specific reason for the closures, and temporary closures often involve renovations or facility upgrades.

Editor's Note

Tokyo and Kagawa reopening on the same day, with Kawaguchi Ekimae next in line two weeks later. Matsuya's relay of closures and reopenings looks set to continue.
