Matsuya Overhauls Late-Night Closure Schedules for Late July at 73 Tokai, Kinki & Hokuriku Stores

It has come to light that between July 16 and 17, the late-night-to-early-morning closure schedules listed in the business hours section of the official site were updated all at once for 73 Matsuya stores across the Tokai, Kinki, and Hokuriku regions. The affected stores are concentrated in 10 prefectures — Aichi, Osaka, Gifu, Hyogo, Toyama, Shiga, Wakayama, Ishikawa, Kyoto, and Fukui — with not a single store in the Kanto region and eastward, or in Kyushu, included. None of these represent store closures; rather, they are swaps of the schedule during which 24-hour stores and others suspend operations only during the late-night hours, likely tied to equipment inspections and the like.

The updates broadly fall into three patterns. New closure dates were added to 17 stores that previously had no closures scheduled, existing closure dates were replaced with different dates at 32 stores, and closure schedules were removed entirely, returning to regular operating hours, at 24 stores.

Concentrated in 73 Stores Across 10 Prefectures, Every Existing Gifu Store Included

The breakdown by prefecture is as follows. Led by Aichi with 21 stores and Osaka with 17, the affected stores form a band stretching from Tokai through Kinki to Hokuriku.

Gifu Prefecture stands out in particular: Gifu Akanebe (0267), Ogaki (0621), Kitagata-cho (1796), Gifu Noritake (1799), Tarui (2135), Gifu Toeicho (2153), and Kakamigahara (2166) — all seven of the prefecture’s existing stores — were included in this update, with every one updated at the same time without exception. Toyama Prefecture also saw 6 of its 8 existing stores affected, while Ishikawa and Wakayama Prefectures each had 4 of their 7 existing stores affected, reflecting high coverage across the Hokuriku and northern Kii areas as well.

17 Stores With Newly Added Closures

The following 17 stores had late-night closures for late July newly added where none had previously been scheduled. Toyota Yamanote (0390) will close from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM on July 19 and 20; Otsu-dori Nishiki (0506) from 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM on July 18 and 25; and Rokujizo (0881) from 2:00 AM to 4:00 AM on July 18, July 21–25, and July 28–31. Kishiwada (0096), which normally operates from 5:00 AM to 3:00 AM Monday through Thursday, added closures from 12:00 AM to 9:00 AM on July 25, 26, and 30, and from 10:00 PM to 9:00 AM on the 31st.

In addition, Osone-kita (0691), Hanshin Nishinomiya (0899), Tomita (0911), Korien Ekimae (1919), Toyoake (1703), Wakayama Mukai (1724), Kainan (1757), Fukaebashi (1770), Kishiwada Nishinouchi (2175), Izumiotsu (2087), Haruki (0888), Konan (1733), and Higobashi (0957) also added new closure schedules.

24 Stores Where Closures Were Lifted, Returning to Regular Operation

Conversely, the following 24 stores had their previously displayed late-night closures removed, reverting to a plain regular-operation listing with no notes. Imaike (0247) had its closure of 2:00 AM to 4:00 AM on July 4, 6, and 9 lifted; Kanazawa Masuizumi (0719) had its closure of 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM on July 3–5, 11, and 15 lifted; and Osaka Honmachi (0411) had its closure of 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM on July 4 and 5 lifted — all such closure listings were removed.

The 24 stores include Ichinomiya (0638), Nakazakicho (1892), Suminodo (0955), Yokaichi (2189), Meieki-nishi (1982), Obu (2188), Otsu (0612), Takarazuka Yasukura (1852), Komatsu Hinodemachi (2221), Komaki (0473), Tsuruga (2173), Namerikawa (2243), Koka Minakuchi (1945), Inazawa (2141), Minoh (0968), Fujiidera Ekimae (2031), Toyohashi Tsutsujigaoka (0475), Echizen Senpuku (1958), Nonoichi Chuo-dori (2199), Kanazawa Masanagamachi (1890), and Kurobe (2056). These stores appear to have returned to normal operation after concluding their early-July closure periods.

32 Stores With Replaced Existing Schedules

The remaining 32 stores followed the pattern of having their existing closure schedules replaced with different dates. Gifu Akanebe shifted from a schedule centered on early July to July 19, 20, and 27, while Kitagata-cho shifted from being centered on July 5–15 to being centered on July 20–30 — both moving their schedules together into the latter half of the month. Kinokawa Ohashi (0327), whose closure had previously been limited to July 16–19 only, saw it substantially expanded to July 21–23, 24, 25, 27–30, and 31.

Other stores subject to schedule replacement include Kasugai (0268), Okazaki-kita (0425), Toyota Totsuka (0429), Kariya Hidaka (0519), Toyohashi Fujisawacho (0539), Mukogawa (0560), Ogaki, Toyama Tanakamachi (0677), Hikone (0709), Toyama Kakeo (0732), Mikage (0783), Kobe Sanda Ekimaecho (0963), Hamadera (0995), Moritaka (1712), Toyama Fuchu (1720), Hanaten (1737), Gifu Noritake, Kobe Shinzaike (1804), Seto (1834), Shijo Karasuma (1925), Wakayama Kano (1984), Moriguchi Satanakamachi (2052), Tarui, Nishio (2140), Gifu Toeicho, Kakamigahara, Tondabayashi (2167), Miyoshi (2212), and Imizu Taikoyama (2245) — in every case, existing closure schedules were replaced with dates in the latter half of July.

A Monthly Recurring Update

This mass update of late-night closure schedules is not a one-off occurrence. On July 3, the July closure schedules were updated for 65 stores across Kinki, Tokai, and Hokuriku, and this latest update amounts to a replacement of the latter half of that schedule. Going further back, updates on this scale — tens to around 100 stores — have recurred at roughly two-week to one-month intervals: 80 stores across Chubu and Kansai on June 3, and 98 stores on May 16. The practice continues of collectively re-posting each store’s individually set late-night closure schedule every time the month changes.
