At 10:00 a.m. on November 3, Matsuya posted a discount coupon for its winter staple “Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae” on its official X account (@matsuya_foods). The coupon covers two items, the “Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae Set” and the “Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae with Beef Boneless Short Rib Yakiniku Set,” both discounted by 70 yen. It can be used from 10:00 a.m. on November 3 through 10:00 a.m. on November 10. Coupons like this are normally distributed through the Matsuya App, but because the app outage continues, this one was released on X instead.

Two Items Covered, With Discounted Prices Starting at 710 Yen

The coupon covers two items: the Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae Set and the Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae with Beef Boneless Short Rib Yakiniku Set. According to the released image, the discounted prices are 710 yen for the Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae Set and 1,260 yen for the Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae with Beef Boneless Short Rib Yakiniku Set, both 70 yen off the regular price. Before the discount, the prices are 780 yen and 1,330 yen respectively.

The image prominently features steam rising from a Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae served in a white earthenware pot, layered with tofu, napa cabbage kimchi, beef, and scallion. The tagline reads “This heat. This spice.” followed by “Matsuya’s ‘Winter’ specialty, packed with seafood dashi flavor.” To use the coupon, customers hold the two-dimensional (QR) code shown in the lower left of the image up to the scanner on the ticket vending machine. The text states, “Please hold the QR code up to the ticket vending machine/tablet to use it,” meaning it can be used not only at the ticket vending machine but also when ordering via tablet.

Third Announcement Since the App Outage Began

This post marks the third in a series of announcements surrounding the outage of Matsuya’s app and services. Late at night on October 28, emergency maintenance was announced for the official website, the Matsuya App, and Matsuben Net. On the night of October 29, the first apology came in the form of a discount coupon worth up to 70 yen off. This latest coupon is positioned as the second apology coupon following that one.

While the first coupon was limited to use “at the ticket vending machine,” this time the usable channels expanded to “ticket vending machine/tablet.” At the start of the post, Matsuya wrote, “We apologize for the continued inconvenience as the app remains down” and “We continue to focus intensively on repairs,” indicating that the outage is still ongoing.

In the roughly five days between the first coupon announcement on October 29 and this latest one, Matsuya’s official X account has posted nothing unrelated to the outage. Before the outage began, the account had been posting multiple times a day about things like its collaboration with Sumikko Gurashi, new store openings, and the MATSUYA DELI renewal. None of the outage-related posts have included the emojis or emoticons typically seen in Matsuya’s regular posts.

A Winter Staple for Over 20 Years

Matsuya’s Kimchi Jjigae lineage, which leads to today’s Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae, traces back to the “Kimchi Jjigae Set Meal” of December 2004, and has appeared as a winter staple for over 20 years under various names and ingredient combinations. In 2019, it returned as the “Tofu Kimchi Jjigae that Matsuya fans have been waiting for,” and the current name, “Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae,” has since become fixed. In recent years, alongside the return of the core item, Matsuya has also rolled out limited-time variations: in 2024, the “Chicken and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae” was released on October 31, followed by the “Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae” on November 28; in 2025, an announcement that “it’s back again this year” came on October 23, followed by the release of the “Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae with Oysters” on November 27.

Regarding this season’s Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae, Matsuya wrote in this X post, “Matsuya’s ‘winter’ specialty, Beef and Tofu Kimchi Jjigae, is back again this year.” Last year’s release announcement headline also used the phrase “back again this year along with the first signs of winter,” making “back again this year” a phrase repeated in Matsuya’s yearly return announcements.
