Matsuya to Release 'Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set' Combining a Miyazaki Local Dish on August 18

On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Matsuya will release the “Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set,” a new product bringing together local dishes from Miyazaki Prefecture in a single meal. The official X account announced it on the evening of August 14 with the copy “Miyazaki’s summer, in one dish.” Priced at 1,300 yen, it will be available at Matsuya locations nationwide (excluding some stores), except for stores within Okinawa Prefecture.

Bringing “Rich” and “Refreshing” Together in One Dish

The announcement image stacks the Chicken Nanban Set Meal, topped generously with Tartar Sauce, above a bowl of Hiyajiru, alongside the bold copy “Rich, yet refreshing.” The Chicken Nanban Set Meal is shown with Shredded Cabbage salad mixed with Corn and Purple Cabbage, plus Rice, while the Hiyajiru is depicted as a cold, Miso-style broth topped with Tofu, Cucumber, Scallion, and Ground Sesame. The contrast between the richness of the fried dish and the chilled soup is presented as the selling point of the set itself.

Chicken Nanban (Miyazaki-style fried chicken topped with tartar sauce) will be offered in three forms: the “Chicken Nanban Set Meal” with Rice and salad for 980 yen, the “Hiyajiru Chicken Nanban Set” pairing it with Hiyajiru for 1,300 yen, and “Chicken Nanban Only” as a standalone side dish for 780 yen.

“Chicken Nanban” Makes Its Debut on Matsuya’s Menu

The product name “Chicken Nanban” has no record of appearing on Matsuya’s official menu page, either as a regular item or a Store-limited one. With this Set Meal, Set, and standalone item, it is being added to Matsuya’s menu for the first time. Originating in Miyazaki Prefecture, Chicken Nanban is a local dish of fried chicken coated in Sweet Vinegar Sauce and topped with Tartar Sauce, a characteristic echoed by the generous Tartar Sauce in the announcement image.

Hiyajiru Has Been Expanding in Stages Since Its May Test Sale

This is not Hiyajiru’s first appearance at Matsuya. It first showed up as a Store-limited test item from May 5 to 11, and after being delisted for a time, returned nationwide on August 4 as a regular menu item — Hiyajiru Only for 390 yen, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set for 730 yen, and Hiyajiru . Small adjustments have continued since then: on August 5, the price of Hiyajiru was revised from 310 yen to 270 yen, and on August 11, the Hiyajiru Vegetable Set was moved from the “Store-limited” category to the “Set Meal” category.

Going back further, the official X account introduced the test sale on May 7 with the post “Miyazaki specialties: ‘Hiyajiru’ and ‘Chicken Nanban’!,” already mentioning the pairing of the two. About two weeks after Hiyajiru’s nationwide release, that same Miyazaki duo has now come together in a single dish as an official set menu item — a new development centered on Hiyajiru, following Hiyajiru Only, the Choice of Side option, and the Vegetable Set.
