In October 2026, Matsuya will open new stores in Yashiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture, and Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. According to the official store information, “Matsuya Yashiro Store” (2607) is listed to open in Yashiro City at 10:00 a.m. on October 15, and “Matsuya Uji Niban Store” (2328) is listed to open in Uji City at 10:00 a.m. on October 10, both with opening dates specified. Both openings are yet to come, and as of now this is still at the announcement stage.

Opening Dates and Locations of the Two Stores

The basic details of both stores are as follows.

Store Location Opening Date Hours Co-located Brand
Matsuya Uji Niban Store 96-1 Uji Niban, Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture October 10, 2026, 10:00 a.m. 24-hour operation Matsunoya
Matsuya Yashiro Store 3-34 Kitanomarucho, Yashiro City, Kumamoto Prefecture October 15, 2026, 10:00 a.m. 24-hour operation Matsunoya

“Uji Niban,” in the name of the Uji Niban Store, is the local place name (aza name) of the store’s location in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture. Kitanomarucho in Yashiro City, where the Yashiro Store is located, sits in a corner of the city center centered around the ruins of Yashiro Castle.

Yashiro City, Kumamoto: Matsuya’s First Location

The Yashiro Store will be Matsuya’s first location in Yashiro City. With its addition, the number of Matsuya stores in Kumamoto Prefecture will rise to five: three in Kumamoto City — Kumamoto Shinshigai Store (1362), Kumamoto Sakuragi Store (2239), and Kumamoto Nagamine-Minami Store (2118) — and one in Kikuyo Town, Kikuchi District — Kumamoto Hikarinomori Store (2240). Until now, Matsuya’s presence in the prefecture had been concentrated in Kumamoto City and Kikuyo Town. The new store in Yashiro City extends Matsuya’s reach in Kumamoto Prefecture into the southern part of the prefecture. Yashiro City is Kumamoto Prefecture’s second-largest city after Kumamoto City, and this opening marks Matsuya’s entry into an area that had until now been a blank spot on its map.

Uji City, Kyoto: Matsuya’s Second Location

The Uji Niban Store will be Matsuya’s second location within Uji City, following the Uji Ogura Store (2227). With the Uji Niban Store’s opening, the number of Matsuya stores in Kyoto Prefecture will reach 17. Of these, Kyoto City has the most with 13 stores, followed by Uji City with 2, and Kameoka City and Kumiyama Town, Kuse District, with 1 each. This makes Uji City the area with the second-most stores in the prefecture, after Kyoto City.

Within Kyoto Prefecture, the Gozendori Oike Store (2290) had just opened in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, on June 2, and the Uji Niban Store will be the next new store in the prefecture after that one.

What the Two Stores Have in Common

Both the Uji Niban Store and the Yashiro Store will be co-located with Matsunoya. Matsunoya is Matsuya Foods’ sister brand, centered on tonkatsu and set meals, and Matsunoya co-location is the most common store format among Matsuya’s current locations. Both stores will operate 24 hours a day, and both opening dates are set for mid-October.

Matsuya has continued opening new stores in close succession recently; in September, it opened three stores, including the Kagoshima Tenmonkan Store, successively starting September 17. The Uji Niban Store and Yashiro Store now announced for October continue that trend. Both stores are still at the announcement stage, and actual operations will begin only once each reaches its respective opening date.

Editor's Note

Who would have thought new Matsuya stories would surface in both Kyoto and Kumamoto in the same week. Since Yashiro is getting its very first Matsuya, I'm curious how the locals there will react.
