Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza Store to Launch 'Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box' at 1,861 Yen Today at 11 a.m.
Matsuya Foods will begin selling a new menu item, the “Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box,” at its prepared-meal format store Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza at 11 a.m. on September 25. The price is 1,861 yen (tax included). The box combines Kobe beef with in-house kimchi in Matsuya’s special sweet sauce, and Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza is the only store that will carry it.
Kobe Beef and Kimchi in a Sweet Sauce, Served as a “Box”
According to the announcement, Kobe beef grilled on a teppan until fragrant is generously coated in “Matsuya’s special sweet sauce,” with in-house kimchi placed in the center. The company describes it this way: “The sweetness of the fine fat of melt-in-your-mouth wagyu and the deep spiciness of our proud in-house kimchi in the center blend in perfect balance, so you won’t be able to stop eating the white rice.” In the product image, Kobe beef is arranged on the left and right of a gold-colored container, with a band of red kimchi in the middle.
“Maximum Koitamago” (190 yen) is also on sale as a recommended topping. It is said to coat the dish in a rich yolk for a milder taste. Shareholder benefit vouchers cannot be used.
Kobe Beef Menu Items Since Opening: At 1,861 Yen, the Highest Single-Item Price
Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza opened on June 10, 2026, in the basement level 1 of Matsuya Ginza. It is a permanent prepared-meal format store, operated as a service separate from Matsuya’s regular menu. Since opening, new menu items using Kobe beef have been announced one after another.
Looking at the launch announcements for Kobe beef items so far in order of price, the “Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box” has the highest single-item price.
| Menu item | Price | Release |
|---|---|---|
| Kobe Beef Bowl topped with Green Onion and Soft Boiled Egg | 1,650 yen | August 19 |
| Kobe Beef Bowl topped with Grated Radish & Ponzu Citrus Soy Sauce | 1,650 yen | September 2 |
| Kobe Beef Bibimbap Bowl | 1,800 yen | September 9 |
| Kobe Beef Kimchi Kalbi Box | 1,861 yen | September 25 |
It follows the “Kobe Beef Bibimbap Bowl” (1,800 yen), released on September 9, which also used in-house kimchi and Maximum Koitamago. Kobe beef menu items have so far appeared as a “beef bowl” and a “bibimbap bowl,” but this time the dish is served as a “box.”
“Kimchi Kalbi,” a Long-Familiar Matsuya Pairing
“Kimchi Kalbi” is a familiar Matsuya pairing of kimchi and boneless short rib. At regular stores, it has returned many times since 2007 as the “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl,” and a frozen-food collaboration product appeared in June 2022. Most recently, on August 29 (Meat Day), regular stores sold a blowout-size “Boneless Short Rib and Kimchi Bowl” for one day only. The store and the presentation differ, but this suggests how widely loved the “Kimchi Kalbi” pairing has been at Matsuya. This time, the pairing has been brought into the Kobe beef menu at Matsuya PREMIUM Ginza.
Editor's Note
Kobe beef wrapped in kimchi and a sweet sauce — just imagining it makes me want a second helping of rice. A 1,861-yen luxury, though, means weighing it against the train fare to Ginza.
