The Twice-cooked Pork Set Meal is a limited-time item that went on sale nationwide on July 14. This post is not an announcement of a new release, but another look at how to enjoy the choice of side dish.

A Melting Yolk Poured Over the Twice-cooked Pork

The photo captures the moment the yolk of a soft-boiled egg, placed on top of the Twice-cooked Pork, breaks and flows out. Meat coated in sweet-and-savory Chinese sauce is stir-fried with cabbage, green pepper, and onion, and the orange yolk spreads over the whole dish. A Summer Staple for 9 Years Running, Revamped in 2026 with an Authentic Chinese Sauce

Twice-cooked Pork has appeared every summer for nine consecutive years, from its debut in 2018 through 2026, making it a regular fixture of Matsuya’s summer lineup. The price of the set meal alone has risen in stages: 650 yen in 2018 and 2019, 750 yen in 2022, 790 yen in 2023, and 880 yen in 2024. It then dropped 20 yen to 860 yen in 2025 before returning to 880 yen in 2026, the same level as 2024 (the announcements for 2020 and 2021 do not state a price).

For the 2026 Twice-cooked Pork, the official announcement says it has been “powered up with an authentic Chinese sauce that pursues sweetness, richness, and a moderate spiciness,” positioning this as a year in which the seasoning was renewed. The sauce, which in previous years was described as “spicy authentic Chinese sauce” and “richer spicy authentic Chinese sauce,” now emphasizes a balance of sweetness, richness, and heat. Even now, well after the launch, the official X account continues to promote the limited-time Twice-cooked Pork by showing off its pairing with a soft-boiled egg.
